Plenty in the Bay - Wendy Galloway

Last Sunday in July saw about 20 people and numerous cars assemble near the Whakatane turn off for a day’s outing.

First stop was Scilla’s homemade chocolates at Ohope, a demonstration on how they were made, not like the chocolates I made the previous day. As I am allergic to dairy products, I was glad that they made dark chocolate chocs and these were lovely, liqueur, coffee, nut, ginger yummy fillings. Plenty of samples for us all. Scilla are starting a newsletter and the AROC club will be featured with a photo of some of the cars and of course people who went. If you would like to order chocolates www.scillachocolates.co.nz they sell a lot to corporate companies who like to give their clients something different, and with Christmas only about 4 months away and getting ready for the busy time.

Next stop was The Wharf restaurant at Whakatane, we sort of took over as is normal, the weather was chilly to say the least but the restaurant was warm, plenty of variety, great fish & chips, there was meat loaf which was wrapped in bacon and had cashews through it, steak, pasta, bangers and mash and of course Michael Galloway had to have desert, the rest of us apart from 3 children could not eat anything else.

After coffees back over the hill to Ohope again and on to Celestial Wines, this is a fruit wine company, rhubarb, peach, nectarine, kiwifruit and many other varieties. We could not see how they made or bottled the wine but samples were had and they put on some cheese and biscuits. By this time it was about 3.30 so we all headed home after a great day out, good company, put the world and all our cars to right. Thanks once again to John & Mary McTavish for organising.
