WOODHOUSE AND DISTRICT COMMUNITY FORUM

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY

This document explains the Woodhouse and District Community Forum’s policies on equal opportunity in employment.

THE POLICY
The Woodhouse and District Community Forum operates an equal opportunity in employment policy to ensure that all people work for or apply to work for the Woodhouse and District Community Forum receive equal treatment in employment regardless of their sex, martial status, disability, sexual orientation, race, creed, colour, ethnic or national origin or age.

All employees and potential employees will be made aware of this policy as a matter of course.

Statute requires that an employer does not discriminate in the following areas: -

  • Gender
  • Sexual orientation
  • Religion / Religious beliefs
  • Colour
  • Race
  • Ethnicity
  • Cultural origin
  • Disability

Nonetheless, without adequate training, discrimination is likely to occur. It is the intention of the Woodhouse and District Community Forum to ensure that sufficient education and training is afforded to its members and employees to ensure that discrimination is avoided and the provisions of the law complied with.

POLICY ON THE EMPLOYMENT OF DISABLED PEOPLE

The Policy of the Woodhouse and District Community Forum is: -

  1. To give full and fair consideration to disabled people for all types of vacancies based solely on their ability to do the job.
  1. To give equal access to training, career development and promotion.
  1. To retain newly disabled employees and employees with deteriorating conditions wherever possible, utilising rehabilitation, retraining, redevelopment and special employment measures where necessary.
  1. To adapt premises, modify equipment and provide special aids if possible and where necessary.
  1. To co-operate with disabled people, disabled people’s organisations, trade unions and others who have similar objectives.
  1. To promote and create opportunities for employment designed so that disabled people can use their skills and capabilities, taking account of their special needs in integrated work situations.

POLICY ON RACE RELATIONS

The Woodhouse and District Community Forum: -

(a)Recognises racial prejudice as a dangerous sickness threatening the healthy development of the human race and racism as an unmitigated evil of society.

(b)Is opposed to all forms of racial oppression and is committed to the principles of human dignity and equality.

(c)Is committed to co-operation at all levels in promoting tolerance, combating racial injustice and securing development among all in the Woodhouse and district Community Forum and will work for the eradication of all forms of racism and racial prejudice.

POLICY ON SEXISM

The Woodhouse and District Community Forum recognises that we live in a society in which the process of sex-stereotyping leads people to conform to gender roles which can inhibit individual’s abilities, preferences and aspirations. This sexism impoverishes both sexes by limiting horizons and restricting choices.

Sexism affects everyone and tackling it must be the responsibility of all.

The Woodhouse and District Community Forum are committed to identifying and eradicating sexist practices. The Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Acts make discrimination unlawful on the basis of gender.

The Forum firmly believes that sexism is incompatible with equal opportunities for all and that commitment to anti-sexism is a fundamental legal duty.

This policy statement pledges the Woodhouse and District Community Forum to actively combat sexism and to promote equality of opportunity for women and men.

POLICY ON AGEISM

The Woodhouse and District Community Forum recognises that we live in a society that is sometimes ageist. The Forum believes in equal opportunities for all irrespective of age and will actively work to promote this equality.
