Xtraordinary People.

Xtraordinary People is an initiative launched with the British Dyslexia Association to raise awareness about dyslexia and the problems our teachers face and to help raise funds to train teachers and ‘X up’ our schools.

One in Ten children in the UK is dyslexic. Dyslexia is a difference in the area of the brain that deals with language and affects the underlying skills associated with learning to read, write and spell. It can also affect memory, organisation, concentration and maths. Dyslexia doesn’t affect intelligence, in fact many dyslexics have a much higher than average IQ. They are often very creative, inventive and brilliant lateral thinkers. Research has found them to be 5 times more likely to be entrepreneurs.

Dyslexics need a different multi sensory approach to learning. This approach helps with ALL specific learning difficulties and literacy in general. However, if unrecognised and unsupported, dyslexics cannot learn effectively.

Geton Board.

Dyslexic celebrities such as Richard Branson, Jamie Oliver, Steve Redgrave, Jackie Stewart and Robbie Williams have pledged their support. Virgin is one of the first companies to have thrown its weight behind theinitiative, with many more household names pledging their support. So get on board and help raise the funds needed to train your staff and X’up your school (approx £5,000), and with your contribution, we can improve the lives of thousands of children.

Pupils X’up their Schools with Back 2 Front Day!

On < insert date>, staff and pupils at <insert name of school> will go the wrong way to get the right results by wearing their clothes and doing things Back 2 Front and donating £1 to Xtraordinary People at The British Dyslexia Association to raise funds for Specialist Dyslexia Teacher Training.

This new campaign is urging thousands of schoolchildren to go back to front all day and raise funds and awareness for much needed specialist dyslexia teacher training. Proceeds will help Xtraordinary People in their nationwide awareness and fundraising campaign to help alleviate the problems faced by our schools and most importantly, the thousands of dyslexic children who are failed by the system.

With a wealth of famous dyslexic achievers offering their support, including Richard Branson, Jamie Oliver, Robbie Williams, Jackie Stewart and Damon Albarn, it’s faintly ludicrous to still consider dyslexia a sign of ignorance, laziness or inferiority.

Sadly, no matter how well intentioned, very few teachers are adequately trained to recognise or teach dyslexics who account for at least 10% of their pupils.

<Insert school spokesperson’s name> said: On <insert date> pupils at <insert name of school> will be wearing clothes, hair and accessories showing their creative talents and individuality, all in aid of Xtraordinary People’s Back 2 Front Day. Getting involved is easy, our pupils love coming up with fun back to front ideas, and through their support of Xtraordinary People, they will be helping to give dyslexic children, as well as themselves, an education system that caters for all the children in the class, not just the ones who aren’t dyslexic.
