ATTENTION STUDENTS and PARENTS

Congratulations for deciding to participate in this year’s musical at Carl Sandburg, “The Addams Family young@part”! We are looking forward to working with all of ourSandburg Stars! Please read the following information carefully.

COMMITMENT

As with any sport or activity commitment and dedication is a priority. We as directors understand the balancing act that students (and parents) have between various afterschool and evening events. Therefore it is important that each student (and parent) keep a copy of the schedule for rehearsals, meetings, and performances. Attached you will find acalendar for auditions and an informational page for important dress rehearsal and performance dates in DECEMBER. PLEASE mark your own personal calendar with the dress rehearsal and performance dates and times. If at any time you or your child has a conflict it is very important that you contact one of the directors via email or written note as soon as possible.

All members of our cast and company are expected to maintain the highest academic standards. Being in the show is not an excuse for letting schoolwork slide. If you find yourself having difficulty balancing your responsibilities, please see Mrs. Phillips, Mr. Hastings, or Ms. Douglas as soon as possible. Asking for help is a very mature thing to do!

As members of the cast, you will become a close “family”. EVERYONE is important. Start thinking about your character’s personality. What are they like? How do they respond to things that happen around them? How old are they? How do they walk? Think? Talk? Dress? Do they have any quirks or habits that you can bring out? Google or YouTube your character and get some ideas! These can be helpful during auditions.

SANDBURG SPORTS vs. MUSICAL

Students ARE able to participate in sports at Sandburg AND be a part of our show! As coaches and advisors we work together. Students are excused from rehearsals for all GAMES. If the games are at HOME and end early we will expect the student to devote the remaining time to our rehearsal. Students are asked to split practice time. We prefer to have students attend musical rehearsal from 4-5 and participate in their sport from 3-4. We also ask that students give us a heads up on their game schedule as this seems to change weekly. Please be advised that being absent from a rehearsal does not excuse a student from memorizing lines or knowing their blocking. Students may have to work on their own time or attend a rehearsal where they are not needed to catch up.

Musical Fee

The musical feefor 2018/2019 show is $25. All students who are involved in the show are expected to pay this fee. This fee will go towards the scripts, costumes, scenery, props and materials, cast party, musical rental fee, script and license fee to produce the show and copyright license. T-shirts will be available at a later date for an additional cost. If anyone has difficulties paying the musical fee please reach out to one of the directors ASAP. ***Families that have more than one student participating will receive a $5 discount.

PARENTS: We are in need of parent volunteers to make the rehearsals and performances run smooth and successful! I know that giving up time for some of you is difficult however the students will be working VERY hard for the next 2 ½ months and need your support. Mrs. Amanda Clark will be sending out a sign up genie sometime in October to volunteer for various jobs. When signing the document below please put an email that you check daily.

DONATIONS FOR STUDENTS

I ask that every parent please donate some type of beverage and snack at any time (chips, pretzels, etc. - small bags work the best, case of water, juice, Snapple, etc PLEASE NO SODA). Mark your donation with your name and either drop it off after a rehearsal or in the main office. We will use the items for our dress rehearsals in March.

COSTUME HELPand LOBBY HELP

If anyone is handy at sewing, gluing, cutting, pasting, or following simple directions for costumes or lobby decorations please let us know! We will be having some Saturday rehearsals and parents are encouraged at times to help put together items in the lobby or take items home to complete at your own convenience.

REHEARSALS and CANCELLATIONS

Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 27th from 3-5pm. MOST rehearsals will run from 3-5pm and will meet in the auditorium. Please be aware that there will be Saturday rehearsals this year that will take place sometime between 9-12pm. All rehearsals will eventually be listed on my web page. Please get in the habit of checking that frequently. I also try to send out a weekly email to parents highlighting the rehearsal schedule for that week. Any cancelled rehearsal will be listed on my web page (as soon as possible), the school’s web page, and will be announced at school. Sometimes after school buses are cancelled due to inclement weather so check often if weather conditions arise. You will also be able to sign up for the REMIND app where you will receive a text message regarding any rehearsal change, reminders or any other important information. More information to come!

Lastly, I want to thank all of you ahead of time for any help and support you can give to our show. We are looking forward to working with all of Sandburg’s finest talent! If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me:
