Spring Lake Golf Club

Spring Lake, NJ

Assistant-In-Training Job Description

Course Background:

Spring Lake Golf Club, founded in 1898, is a premier Private Golf Club located on the Jersey Shore. Many of the finest beaches and shore attractions in New Jersey are just a stone’s throw awayfrom the club. New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City, are all only aboutan hour’s drive as well.

In 1909, when the Club settled in to its current location, the club commissioned famed Architect George C. Thomas to design a championship Golf Course at their new location.Less than a decade later, in 1917, another of America’s greatest Golf Course Architects, A.W. Tillinghast was brought in to update, lengthen and put his own touch on the young club.

Spring Lake Golf Club has had the luxury of hosting two NJSGA Open Championships and various other USGA events during its rich history. This upcoming season we will be hosting the NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championship.

Spring Lake Golf Club has just completed the third year of Master Plan Renovations, which included a total bunker reconstruction, multiple tee box constructions and two rebuilt greens. Nevertheless, there is still much more work to be done, i.e. tee construction, rebuilding of greens, establishing native areas. This work, done in conjunction with our golf course architect, restores the original design intents of two legendary architects. The Assistant-In-Training will not only take part in this construction but will be exposed to the “behind the scenes” of all that goes in to large scale golf course renovations. In addition to the on course renovations, we have made significant upgrades to our maintenance facility, installing a new “state of the art” chemical and fertilizer storage structure and a new pump station. This pump station provides the ability to supply over 2000 gallons per minute and to inject wetting agent and fertilizer directly into our irrigation system through fertigation.
