ASL 1 Semester 1 Expressive Final

Two students will create and sign a dialogue based on a topic. Together, you will first write out a conversation in English. Then, write it out in ASL structure, or GLOSS format. This way you are creating a conversation in English, and then translate it into GLOSS (ASL format). Students are to create this conversation with at least FIVE lines per person, for a total of TEN lines. Each line must be at LEAST Five signs when in the Gloss format. For example, a line that is “Sure” would not be acceptable. Make sure you have memorized your part!

The students will be assigned which topic they are expected to sign.

1.  What are your feelings about taking an ASL test? How did you study? Will you pass the test? Why?

2.  Describe your best friend to your partner. What are his/her physical features (hair style, color, height, etc.)? Describe your best friend’s personality.

3.  Describe your favorite class. Why do you enjoy this class? What is the teacher’s personality?

4.  Work with your partner on rearranging a room. Give specific directions on where to move furniture. You may agree or disagree on where furniture should be placed, and offer other suggestions.

5.  Your partner is deaf. Introduce yourself to the deaf person. Let them know who your teacher is and why you are taking ASL classes. Your partner should share about his/her teacher and school. Ask about some likes and dislikes.
