Art 1, Week 13- Ceramics Intro

Monday

1.Finish Perspective Project, using rubric to guide you. Project is due beginning of class WEDNESDAY.

2.Early Finishers: Set up the room for ceramics:

Make new seating chart so everyone sits at a low table,Hang ceramics posters,

Bring in reclaim buckets, rinsing buckets, and clay buckets,Assign chores,

Organize tool buckets for each table,Arrange examples,

Cover free tables with canvas and clamps,Reclaim any hardened clay,

Bring in clay, rolling pins, wood strips, plastic bags,Kiln wash kiln shelves,

Assign tray numbers to students,Fix tape on clay rack,

Write name on masking tape on open side of board,Take kiln room tours,

Arrange clay rack shelf space for each student.

Tuesday

1.Catawba Valley Pottery Video:

discuss ceramics firing process.

2.Finish Perspective Project, using rubric to guide you.

3.Early finishers: Look through old pottery magazines for interesting ideas to use, look up pottery wheel

videos on Youtube (for example: look up 'pottery wheel mug, bowl, dish, vase...')

Wednesday

1.Perspective drawing is due for a Peer Assessment. Please throw away all tape, wipe board clean and put away, and sign your name on your paper. Put up all perspective drawings on boards for a critique.

2.Clay PPT. Take notes for Ceramics Quiz on Friday!

3.Look at ceramic examples and discuss how they were made.

4.Pinchpot: review poster, ppt, and make a pinchpot with thin walls. Do not allow clay to touch the table:

Always work in your hands. Cover your pottery and tray in plastic.

5.Clean up Routine and chores: dump buckets, organize cart, clean clay tables, check floor, sinks.

6.All pottery must fit on your tray and not be taller than 9” to fit on the cart shelves. No exceptions!

Consider different shapes for your vessel base: rectangle, triangle, oval. See the poster about vessel shapes. Be sure your vessel is stable: it won’t fall over easily.

7.Kiln room tours.

Thursday
