POSITION:Childcare Team Member

CLASSIFICATION:Terms and Conditions under the Collection Agreement 2016

LOCATION:Arrabri Community House

42 Allambanan Drive, Bayswater North.

HOURS:8.50 am. To 1.20 p.m.

Position Objective:

The Arrabri Community House Childcare Team Member is responsible to provide a high quality occasional childcare program at Arrabri Community House, assisting with the management of all aspects of the program in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and funding requirements.

The position will assist with the co-ordination ofdevelopmentally appropriate early childhood programs for children aged 0 – 6 years within a safe and stimulating environment and provide support to families using the service.

Organisational Relationships:

RESPONSIBLE TO:Arrabri Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR:Supervision of volunteers and casual staff

INTERNAL:Arrabri Community House Committee of Management, Manager, staff, tutors, volunteers and participants

EXTERNAL:Sector networks, other community houses and local childcare providers, Local, State & Federal Government departments, community agencies, community groups, local familiesand members of the general public

Key Responsibilities:

  • In a courteous and professional manner undertake enquiries relating to Arrabri Community House Occasional Care program.
  • Assist with and co-ordinate the planning, resourcing, implementation and evaluation ofearly childhood programs for children aged 0 – 6 years attending the Arrabri Community House Occasional Care program.
  • Provide a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for the children attending Occasional Care and foster supportive and informative relationships with their parents and carers.
  • Maintain a clean and secure environment for the Occasional Care program to operate in, implementing daily checks to ensure the facility is safe for all users, well maintained, adequately resourced and compliant with regulations and statutory obligations.
  • Ensure that Children’s Services Regulations 2009, Children’s Services Act 1996 and Arrabri Community House policies and processes are adhered to,and that professional standards are maintained at all times.
  • Undertake reporting and accountability requirements for the organisation, relevant government authorities and other funding bodies ensuring privacy standards are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure all administrative processes, including attendance records and participant details are collected, documented and maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, policies and processes.
  • Provide advice and regular reports / updates to Arrabri Community House Committee of Management and the Arrabri Manager on issues relevant to Arrabri Community House Occasional Care program.
  • Assist the Arrabri Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Arrabri Manager in the preparation of written reports, briefing papers, funding submissions and other correspondence as required.
  • Assist the Administration Officer with the preparation for the Occasional Care program promotions, enrolments, collecting and collating relevant paperwork.
  • Provide supervision and support to volunteers and casual relief staff working in the Occasional Care program.
  • Contribute to an effective and professional team environment including active participation in staff meetings, professional development activities and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

An approved early childhood qualification, such as Diploma of Childcare; Diploma of Community Services (childcare); Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) or other related tertiary qualification recognised under Children Services Centres Regulations 1998.

Current first aid certificate (Level 2)

Current approved qualification in anaphylaxis management training

Current approved qualification in asthma management training

Current Victorian Police Check

Current Working with Children Check

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Knowledge of the responsibilities of mandatory reporting.

Knowledge and ability to use basic word processing systems and software, e.g. Microsoft Office

Multiskilling

Arrabri Community House employs a small number of staff who are expected to work together and actively contribute to an efficient, professional team environment. On occasion, employees will be required to undertake other duties, at the direction of the Arrabri Manager, to assist in the effective day to day operations of Arrabri Community House.

Probation

All positions at Arrabri Community House are offered for a probationary period of six months, with initial performance criteria established in consultation with the successful applicant and a formal appraisal undertaken prior to the end of the first three months. If the appraisal within the first three months is satisfactory, a further three months probationary period will follow.At the completion of satisfactory performance during the six month period, the successful applicant will be offered an ongoing position.

Selection Criteria:

Criteria 1.

An approved early childhood qualification, such as Diploma of Childcare; Diploma of Community Services (childcare); Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) or other related tertiary qualification recognised under Children Services Centres Regulations 1998.

Criteria 2.

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Services Regulations 2009 and the Children’s Services Act 1996.

Criteria 3.

Demonstrated experience in managing the operations of an Occasional Childcare Service or similar program.

Criteria 4.

Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate early childhood programs for children aged 0 – 6 years.

Criteria 5.

Ability to develop positive working relationships with parents and guardians.

Criteria 6.

High level communication and interpersonal skills.

Criteria 7.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, including the capacity to provide leadership and motivation to others.

Criteria 8.

Competence in the use of Microsoft Office software.
