The Meet Murdoch Experience

-20 Recruitment Agents from priority International Marketing will be visiting Murdoch between 31 October – 4 November for a week packed with interactive activities and an opportunity to explore Perth. The aim of the week is to assist our Agents in promoting Murdoch to prospective students by providing them with a positive experience, information about courses and an insight into life as a Murdoch student.

International Welcome Scholarships

-

  • Having been in the market for four weeks now, feedback from agents and interest from students is encouraging
  • A reminder, they are open to citizen of one of the following countries; Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan or Sri Lanka
  • $10,000 for all Business and Governance eligible degree courses
  • $7,000 for all other eligible degree courses

MACC Scholarship

-We are once again participating in the Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration (MACC) Scholarship

-Open for Malaysian students with an academic record of 65% average

The Meet Murdoch Experience Week

-An inbound familiarisation week to Murdoch for 20 of our for key education recruitment agents

-Date: Monday October 31 to Friday 4 November 2016

-Research suggests that agents consider familiarisation tours to be one of the best ways of establishing and strengthening relationships with an institution and improve their knowledge about the destination; these tours were second only to meeting at a networking conference or workshop. Such familiarisation tours are an industry standard practice and recognised for the value they bring in strengthening engagement with agents, leading to student numbers.

-The week will involve on campus engagement sessions with the Schools and experience Perth social activities

-Our Communication and Events team will be assisting IE in developing the event and we have enlisted an intern to work on the project – Karla Pit

(Outreach)

Mandurah Baptist College – Modern History Visit

-Mandurah Baptist College brought Year 12 students in Modern History for a day of revision in preparation for their final exams last Friday. Murdoch’s Outreach Team arranged for them to hear from academic staff in History and Asian Studies to learn more about Australia’s engagement with Asia. A big thank you to Arjun Subrahmanyan, Dean Aszkielowicz and Quinton Temby for sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with the students.

-Trimester TM Offshore academic progression is the main activity

-We will be commencing a program of advice to pre-2014 students about transfer to the post-2014 structures this month; and initiating the management to completion of students who have exceeded their maximum period of completion.

-Trimester 3, OUA study period 3, and SSAF2 fees are the focus for the next few weeks

-Similar to last year, we will be hosting some live acoustic music performances on Bush Court and at Club Murdoch during graduations week from 12 -16 September 2016. This will include both talented Murdoch students and local musicians. Times are as follows: 11:00am – 2:00pm on Monday 12, Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 September.

MU Health:

Counselling

-Matt Sumner is running Stressless 101 this Thurs 15 Sept, 12.30pm – 1.30pm, Postgraduate Suite ECL2.031

Stressless 101: This interactive workshop will assist students to obtain their optimum balance of productivity and health. By attending you will learn to identify your personal signs of becoming overstressed and how to respond to reduce your negative stress level. You will learn about how being adrenalized affects our body and thinking and how to maximise this for your success.

OSQA:

Surveys

-The Respect.Now.Always. Survey on sexual harassment and assault will launch on Sept 17th. It will be open for approximately a month. The survey is being run nationally by Universities Australia and the Human Rights Commission along with Roy Morgan. For more information go to:

-The International Student Barometer was a big success with Guy Peering presenting on campus. The presentation slides and more data from the ISB will be available in a couple of weeks when we get the data files from i-graduate.

Student Support:

Scholarships

-Honours scholarships are open

-Scholarship payments are now complete

-Forward planning for 2017 will start taking shape which will include some process changes around systems and its efficiencies

-TROs have the wheels in motion for draft planning for S1, 2017 Orientation and will be meeting with the SAN this week

TNE:

Week 2 - September Trimester

-After a busy first week last week, everyone is settling down in what is the final teaching period of delivering the pre-MUCC courses transnationally, and it is also the final teaching period with our partner SMF in Singapore. As from January next year, we will implement new post MUCC courses at both Kaplan and Dubai.

-Catherine Wallace, Dubai Academic Program Coordinator has worked extremely hard since her appointment in early August to meet the deadline for submission of the UQAIB accreditation documentation 2016 for our Dubai operation. The document was submitted last week, well done Catherine and a big thanks to Yukiko and Nathan for assisting while also tackling their normal duties at this very busy time.

-As at Monday 12th Sept, the total commencing students in Dubai is 72 and at Kaplan 957. A total of 1029.

-The new 36 credit point MBA was launched in Singapore last week.Dr Antonia Girardi was guest speaker, other Murdoch staff attending the event were Jenny Sceats and Veronica Mitchell. In addition, students currently in the old 48 credit point MBA were invited to attend an information session with Dr Girardi, advice was provided to students on potential transfers to the new MBA. Both events were well attended and will assist our partner to market the new program for commencing next year.
