CSAC GENERAL MEETING

MONDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2014

Approval of minutes: Domenic Saverino and Christina DaSilva

Treasurer’s Report, John Guido:

-end of October the ending balance was $35,576.53, we have collected all the pizza lunch money, plus a little bit of subway collected, some expenses are already going out, music spending is already spent

-in November we will have some expenses for the raffle, the QSP expenses will also go out and we will show the final revenue

-the activity fee has been collected but not recorded

Fundraising updates:

1). QSP, $18,680.00 is the last and final update

2). Raffle update- it started on November 11, books were sent out with report cards, sales are already at $1140, sales are going well, we will do the VISA gift card for $1000 since there is service fee attached to it so we will give $1000 cash as the grand prize

3). Dinner dance- we are looking for venues, then we will pick a date in the spring

Parent volunteers are needed for staff photo- retake on Monday December 1 at 8:15

Principals report:

-Mr Whicher

- health and safety, anaphylactic in service occurred, the public nurse came in 4 times,

-we held 3 fire drills and completed in the first term, the lockdowns will be scheduled over the next few weeks for the first term

-the defibrillator will be tested as well for the term

-the health and safety visit by the board showed a few areas of improvement, Mr Whicher worked with them to make sure they got done as per their recommendations

-budget- very little was spent since the teachers were busy with progress reports, more should be spent over the next few weeks, we have spent 63% of the budget

-Mr. Morsillo’s update:

-we finally have a new fence between the school and the church

-this year of charity have started with milk bag campaign for mattresses, this is going well, battery collection is also going well

-St Francis table charity, on Dec 11, new student leaders from grade 7 and 8 will go there to feed the needy

-the University of Toronto will be sending new teacher candidates for the second term

-Lego program is back in January

-Roots of empathy program continues with Ms Temby’s class

-swim team meet will take place March 7 and 8, training will start in January 2015

-December 17 is the next rosary apostolate

-book fair was a huge success

-the awards assembly will held on November 27, grades 4 to 8 at 9:15, grades 1 to 4 at 12:45

-we will celebrating advent mass on Dec 15 at 9:30

-chess club continues

-high school applications have been sent to the board

-PD day on Dec 5, this is a faith day for the teachers

- hockey team is getting ready to start the season

-anti bullying campaign is this week November 16 to 22

-Santa Claus pictures to be held on Dec 1, order forms went out today

-Policy updates in the school board- consultation is needed, this is the third and final one to make sure that we are getting all the feedback we need,

-Catholic School Council name changed from Catholic School Advisory council, it is still advisory in nature but they have removed advisory in the name, once it is passed it will be considered CSC and no longer CSAC, the regulation has not changed, final feedback is on Jan 15, 2015 on this item

-noteworthy changes in the procedures for CSAC

  • Regulation 1 requires CSAC chair and Co Chair must be catholic
  • Regulation 9, the bylaws state that the minimum number of members is 7
  • Regulation 12, have a minimum 12 meetings
  • Regulation 14, all parties agree to all communication sent out
  • Regulation 17, all funds collected by CSAC must go into the school account and administered from there
  • Regulation 18, all bank accounts must be merged with the school account
  • Regulation 20, CSAC will provide a report to the principal of any and all activity

-all these can be found at

-elementary admission policy has been passed, we are in the FDK boundary and it is fixed and a child cannot be part of 2 boundaries

-Admission changes for high school: 4 key regulations they want feedback from parents

  • Desire to maintain a catholic presence
  • Right size our schools
  • To arrive at a policy that is transparent and easy to communicate
  • To promote and affirm that every school in our system is a great school

-Regulation 2a, the board will provide 2 identified choices and first consideration will be given if possible but if not then the 2nd choice will be given

-Regulation 2b, single gender school, student may gain access to the closest school

-Regulation 2c, specialty programs, student may apply to any specialty program but the location is identified based on geography, proximity to the feeder school, there will only be 1 school option based on criteria that will be the same across all schools

-you have the choice to comment on both policy changes on the website
