Appointees for Board of Directors for the 2011-2012 Term

USTA Maryland By laws, Article VIII, Section provide for the following:

In the event of the death, disability, resignation, or removal of any officer, or in the event an office is not filled by the required election process or otherwise becomes vacant, the USTA/MARYLAND DISTRICT Board of Directors shall appoint a successor to serve until a replacement is selected by election at the next annual meeting of the membership, at which an election is to be held as provided by these By-laws.

Following the resignation on 1/7/2010 of the then sitting President, the Maryland Board appointed the individuals listed below to serve. The Board requests that the Membership act on the appointments.

PRESIDENT – Marc Kantrowitz, City of Baltimore

Marc completed the 2009-2010 termas 1st Vice President for and was reelected 1st VP for the 2011-1012 term. He is appointed President by the Board. Marc also served on the Maryland District Board from 2001-2006 as 1st VP and as Delegate to Mid-Atlantic. Marc is an Event Marketing-Management Consultant. His career is in managing, marketing, and promoting professional tennis events and activities in the Baltimore, and Washington, DC, metro area, including the Senior Men’s Tennis and Virginia Slims Legends tour events and the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. As former Managing Director of PHS, Ltd., he directed the planning, development, promotion and marketing of the annual Pam Shriver Charity Tennis Classic.

1stVICE PRESIDENT – Jerome Countee, Prince George’s County

Jerome completed the 2009-2010 term as 2nd Vice President for Maryland and was reelected 2nd VP for the 2011-2012 term. He is appointed 1st VP by the Board. Jerome also served on the Board from 2007-2008 as 1st VP. Jerome is a former collegiate basketball player and coach, a lifelong tennis enthusiast, and an avid recreational tennis player. Jerome has volunteered his time managing National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) programs and organizing tennis instruction for youngsters in his community. He has a long standing affiliation with the Prince George’s Tennis & Education Foundation, and has assisted in grant research, writing and fundraising on behalf of PGTEF.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT – Tim Almaguer, City of Baltimore

Tim is appointed by the Board to fill the 2nd Vice President position vacated by Jerome Countee.Tim is Director, Youth Recreational Opportunities with Baltimore’s Safe and Sound Campaign. In his position, he works with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks Dept. and community members, parents and other nonprofits to re-develop inner city recreational opportunities for Baltimore youth. Tim previously was Executive Director of the Friends of Patterson Park, a community group serving as liaison with the Baltimore Recreation and Parks and other agencies in support of Patterson Park in Baltimore. Tim has also been Supervisor for Banner Neighborhoods, Inc.’s summer employment programs in Baltimore, and an after-school teacher for Hampden Family Center in Baltimore.
