Applying to Colleges using Family Connection

How to Apply to Colleges


  1. Log into Family Connection.
  2. Click theCollegestab.
  3. ClickColleges I’m Applying To. (Left side of page)
  4. In theHow are you applyingcolumn, click theHyperlinknext to college you want to update.
  5. Change selectionto the appropriate choice.
  6. UpdateHowI mApplying jpg
    ClickUpdate Applications.

Add Colleges I'm Applying To

  1. Click on theColleges I’m Applying Tolink undermy collegeson the home page of Family Connection.
  2. ClickAdd to this list.

  1. Indicate the decision type from the drop-down menu.
  2. Check the box to request atranscript.s
  3. ClickLookup.
  4. Search by name, alpha browse, etc. to find acollege.
  5. Click the name of the college which fills in that college's name in the box.
  6. Continue adding up to 10 schools.
  7. Once you have completed your list, clickAdd Colleges.
  1. Click the radio button to indicate whether you are applying via Common App.

(Note:I'm not sure yetis an option but students should refrain from leaving this as their selection. If students don't decide before materials must be sent, the materials might not reach the institution on time.)

Request Teacher Letters of Recommendation in Family Connection

Letter of Recommendation

  • You will see the min/max requests allowed for colleges in Colleges I'm Applying to list (You will be prevented from requesting more than the max number of letters of recommendation allowed by the college)
  • You will be able to see the date/time of each status change, as well as the name of the user who made the change
  • If you delete an application, the associated letter of recommendation requests will not be displayed on the letters of recommendation status page; if the application is restored, the letter of recommendation requests will re-appear in the student's list of requests

To request a letter of recommendation

    From the Colleges tab in Family Connection, click on the link under the My Colleges section, titledLetters of Recommendation.
  1. On the recommendation request page, click on the blueAdd Requestbutton to submit requests, for all applications.

    It is recommended that you selectAll current and future colleges I add to my Colleges I'm Applying To list
  2. By this time, you should have personally asked the teacher if he/she would write you a letter of recommendation. Family Connection also gives an option to write personal note (up to 3000 characters) to the teacher and highlight any important aspects of their applications (such as first choice schools, early decision applications, intended major or degree of study etc).
  3. Click theSubmit Requestbutton at the top or bottom of the screen which returns you to the recommendation status page.At the top of the screen, a green status bar shows the teacher's name and thenumber of requests.

Cancel Request for Teacher Letters

If something changes for the student and he or she needs to cancel the letter of recommendation request, the cancel option is available as long as the status is still listed as Requested.Once the status is changed to in progress or submitted, a student will no longer be able to cancel a request from Family Connection.

To cancel request for teacher letter of recommendation

  1. From the Colleges tab in Family Connection, click on a new link under the My Colleges section, titledLetters of Recommendation.
  2. On the recommendation status page, click theXbutton and review the message cancellation message.
  3. The student will click theConfirmCancel Requestbutton to confirm their action.
  4. A success message will appear indicating the request for successfully cancelled.
