JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION/TITLE: Process Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Quality

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

The Process Engineer is responsible for leading the continuous improvement and process control for an area of spring wire manufacturing. Having an ability to specifically define processes for operations, measuring various aspects of the processes and analyzing results to ensure quality, productivity and improvement is key to this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

·  Participate in the development of, or improvement of the manufacturing process control plan

·  Provide recommendations for process changes which directly improve product quality and the consistent process to manufacture quality product

·  Drive the activity in a RPN reduction plan

·  Participate in, design and document the activities surrounding new product line process controls

·  Gather all relevant data, and confirm the measurement systems of the data, in the manufacturing processes; use the data in the support of problem solving activity and as a basis for analysis in corrective actions and process improvements

·  Provide technical expertise to management, and for the use of operator training/coaching

·  Provide a significant contribution for technical data and advise in the steps to improve efficiency and quality (through investments)

·  Participate in layered process audits and corrective actions

·  Performs a variety of assignments involving investigation and resolution of technical problems in production process, product quality and production equipment.

·  Performs individual assignments with general instructions on various aspects of projects involving manufacturing process and product quality. Records, accumulates and interprets data from various tests. Develops information and ideas necessary to issue project reports. Writes technical reports summarizing investigations and draws conclusions from these investigations.

·  Arranges and sets up production equipment to obtain prescribed conditions required to control experimentation. Instructs management and operations people on needed directions and information. Exercises judgment to detect irregularities during investigation procedure and confers with appropriate personnel for direction.

·  Completes various metallurgical and chemical procedures of moderate complexity and uses basic engineering principles to apply them to assigned project work. Uses lab equipment such as mount preparation facilities, metallography, tensile and hardness testing devices, etc. Analyzes microstructures of steel wire products.

·  Contacts vendors when necessary regarding new equipment and technology, using knowledge of materials, equipment and operations.

·  Assists QC Manager in duties when needed, to investigate customer complaints and troubleshooting plant quality problems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

·  2 to 3 years engineering experience

·  Degree in Metallurgical Engineering preferred

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

·  Position requires proficiency in MS Office Suite programs, including Project, Visio, Excel, Power Point, and Word.

·  Must have typing proficiency for efficient reporting.

·  Experience using Mini-Tab is a plus.

·  Position requires strict adherence to environmental controls.

·  A semi-flexible schedule may occasionally be required to accommodate activities.

·  Requires the ability to lead meetings, training and improvement activities.

·  Position requires frequent walking and step climbing.

·  Position requires bending and lifting.
