American Chemical Society, Hampton Roads Section

Helps bring greater understanding of the role of chemistry in our everyday lives. Awards certificates and cash prizes for winners in Senior and Junior Chemistry or closely related fields.

American Helicopter Society, Hampton Roads Chapter

Its aim is not only to emphasize and further engineering excellence in traditional rotorcraft platform disciplines, but also expands this focus to the multidisciplinary fields of vertical flight and related support industries. Awards a plaque and $100 Savings Bond to a Senior and Junior Division project.

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Hampton Roads Section

Awarded to the top two projects devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation and space in both the Junior and Senior divisions. A $100 first place award and $50 second place award will be given to Junior and Senior Division Projects. A $50 award will be given to the sponsoring teacher of the first place projects and a $25 award to the sponsoring teacher of the second place projects. Additionally winning projects will receive a certificate.

American Meteorological Society

Awards 2 certificates of Outstanding Achievement to student exhibitors in the Senior Division for the two best meteorological projects.

American Psychological Association

Awards a certificate for outstanding research in psychology in the category of Behavior & Social Science.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Norfolk Branch

The ASCE Norfolk Branch awards a certificate, ASCE swag, and $100 gift card to the outstanding junior division and senior division individual project shown to study, investigate, and document research in a materials or civil engineering related topic. Projects will be evaluated for creativity, and innovate solutions that exemplify the engineering profession. Presenters will be evaluated on their ability to communicate the technical issues at hand, and their responses to judges questions.

Armed Forces Communications-Electronics Association (AFCEA), Hampton Roads Chapter

An association of military, civilian, and civil service professionals working in the fields of communications, Information Technology, intelligence, and global security. The AFCEA HR Chapter supports Science, Technology, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) education programs such as the Tidewater Science Fair to help encourage students to develop an interest in studying the disciplines that will prepare them for careers as the next generation of professionals in our industry and contributes $1000 each year to help defray the administrative costs of the Tidewater Science Fair and also awards $750 in prize money to three senior division and three junior division students: First Prize - $175; Second Prize - $125; Third Prize - $75.The Senior Division First Place winner advances to the AFCEA International National High School Science Fair.

Armed Forces Communications-Electronics Association (AFCEA), Tidewater Chapter

Armed Forces Communications-Electronics Association (AFCEA), Tidewater Chapter is
a professional association chartered as a patriotic, educationally oriented,
non-profit, technical society. The AFCEA Tidewater Chapter supports Science, Technology, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) education programs to assist and encourage students andprepare them for careers as future professionals in our industry. The Tidewater Chapter presents cash awards to first, second, third places, honorable mention, and two team awards that promote developing effective intelligence and information management, including the development, manufacture and operation of equipment and systems, and provision of services in communications, electronics, computers, intelligence systems, command, control
and technical photography.

ASM Materials Education Foundation

Awards a certificate and medallion to the best materials engineering project.

Association for Women Geoscientists

Awards a certificate to a female student whose project, in the opinion of the judges, exemplify high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in the geosciences. Special consideration should be given to projects that increase the public awareness of the geosciences, illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of the geosciences or promote the sensitivity to the earth as a global system.

Broadcom MASTERS

The Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars) is a competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students whoparticipate inan SSP-affiliated fair with their science, engineering or math project, and are nominated to compete in the national competition.

Middle school students will be nominated to compete in the Broadcom MASTERS at SSP-affiliated science fairs held in the 2010-2011 school year. Nomineeswill enter the competition by completing an online applicationwhere theywill be asked to explain their science project andhave an opportunity to demonstratetheir use of STEM principles - science, technology, engineering and math - in the development and presentation of their project.

From national entrants,300 Semifinalists will beselected,including30 Finalists who win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they will compete for awards and prizes, including the top education award of $25,000 presented by the Samueli Foundation, a gift of Susan and Henry Samueli, a founder of Broadcom Corporation

The best 20 Junior entries will be selected to compete for this award.

Dominion Virginia Power, Surry Power Station

Dominion Virginia Power awards a certificate and $100 gift card to the outstanding junior or senior division individual project shown to study, investigate, and document research in an electrical or energy related topic.The student should display effective cognitive and communications skills when explaining the project.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) Environmental Improvement Fund Award

The regional wastewater treatment utility recognizes two projects in each division that demonstrate potential to enhance the environment through improved water quality. Junior Division: First place - $100 cash, a scientific calculator and a plaque; Second place - $50 cash, a scientific calculator and a plaque. Senior Division: First place - $500 cash and a plaque; Second place - $250 cash and a plaque. HRSD also presents a $50 cash award to each winner’s science teacher.

Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) Information Technology Excellence Award

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) is a not-for-profit, international organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides educational forums, publications and peer interactions opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members. The ISSA Hampton Roads Chapter contributed $1,100 to the TSF and will be awarding a $200 award to the TSF project that uses information technology in the most innovative manner to support the project. Information technology can be the focus of the project or can be used to support the project’s planning, research, analysis, or presentation.

Intel Excellence in Computer Science

Awards a certificate and $200 to the top first place winner of the Computer Science category in the senior division.

I-SWEEEP

Three projects representing the categories of Energy, Engineering and Environmental Science will be able to apply to the I-SWEEEP competition to be held in Houston, TX. I-SWEEEP upholds the 3E (Energy, Engineering and Environment) supporting sustainable development while protecting the environment through clean energy technologies and engineering to support it.

Mu Alpha Theta

Is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society. Awards a certificate to the individual or team project, senior division, demonstrating the most challenging, original, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving modern mathematics. This project does not necessarily have to be entered in the mathematics category.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

Awards a certificate and medallion to the project selected from among all the general award categories whose research emphasizes NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in Earth’s environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation’s economic, social, and environmental needs.

National Society for Professional Engineers

Awards a certificate, lapel pin and a one year subscription to Engineering Times to the most outstanding engineering project demonstrating technical competence, superior verbal and written presentation of the project, professional appearance and demeanor, and preferred awareness of ethical implications of engineering.

Prevailance Innovation Award

Prevailance Inc. is a small business that provides services and solutions in a variety of areas including command and control, information technology, cyber defense, experimentation, training, and anti-terrorism/force protection. It contributes $1000 each year to defray administrative costs of the TSF. With the Innovation Award, Prevailance would like to inspire high school students to pursue college degrees and careers that advance scientific innovation and creativity in practical ways that are likely to improve our human experiences in this world. This award distinguishes projects that advance or are likely to advance future solutions in the areas of Cyber-defense, clean water, infrastructure, health care, energy, or transportation, but will also recognize those projects that are outside of this scope but of such a unique nature as to warrant special consideration, Projects will be judged for:

·  innovation (improved or new use of existing technologies),

·  creativity (originality and/uniqueness),

·  scientific method.

Prevailance will award a first place prize of $200 and a second place prize of $100.

The Regional Ricoh Sustainable Development Award

Awards a certificate and a one year subscription to Science News to one individual or team, selected from among all the general award categories, whose principles and technical innovations offer the greatest potential for increasing our ability to grow environmentally friendly and socially responsible businesses.

SIGMA XI Interdisciplinary Science Award, Tidewater Chapter of SIGMA XI

The Scientific Research Society of North America awards a certificate, $50 check,
and payment of the recipients first year's dues as an Affiliate of the Society of Sigma Xi.

Society of In Vitro Biology

Awards a certificate to a high school junior in the category of plant or animal in vitro biology or tissue culture.

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Virginia Peninsula Post

Is a premier global engineering organization leading the professional and personal growth of members in support of military readiness and national security. SAME will award a project in each division that emphasizes engineering fundamentals. Focus will be given to projects that have the possibility of being implemented by military engineers. The Virginia Peninsula post will present a certificate and $250 cash prize to the senior division, and the junior division will receive a certificate and $100 cash prize.

Society of Women Engineers, Hampton Roads Section

Is a not-for-profit educational and service organization, which promotes engineering as a highly desirable career for women, empowering them to succeed and advance in their aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. The Hampton Roads Section awards a $100 check in both the Junior and Senior Category for the most deserving project in the area of engineering or an engineering related field.

Stockholm Junior Water Prize

Awards 3 certificates to the best water related science projects that increases attention towards the water environment and local and global water challenges. All water related projects can register for the state SJWP online at http://www.wefnet.org/onlineform/SJWP_form.asp.

Tidewater Alliance of Chemistry Teachers

A nonprofit organization of local chemistry teachers from high schools, private schools, and colleges and science teachers from middle schools which promote the love of chemistry through activities such as in-service programs for teachers, demos shows for students, student scholarships, science fair awards and bimonthly electronic newsletters full of creative ideas. Awards will be given to outstanding Senior and Junior Division Chemistry Projects.

TIDEWATER ASSOCIATION OF SERVICE CONTRACTORS (TASC)

TASC is an organization dedicated to excellence in contracting in the public and private sectors. The membership consists of conscientious business persons working together to ensure the highest standards of performance in their specialized fields. Our membership concentrates in such areas as electrical & mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, military communications, electronics, and intelligence systems. Our association supports Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education by making a contribution of $1,000 to the Tidewater Science Fair as well as awarding prize money to three Senior Division and three Junior Division students: First Prize - $200; Second Prize - $100; and Third Prize - $50.

U.S. Air Force

To encourage studies in math, sciences, and engineering areas and to recognize projects that could possibly have some Air Force applicability.

Four awards consisting of a certificate, a Travis & Wells Charging Stand, Computer Backpack, and Leeds Scripto Flash Jotter Bundle Set.

U.S. Army

Awards a certificate of achievement in a presentation folder and a messenger bag to the top Senior project in each of these five areas: Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics/Computer Science, and Physical Sciences. Of these 5, the best project will receive the “Army’s Bronze Medallion and pin for Science/Engineering Excellence.” Ten other Senior projects will be recognized with a certificate.

U.S. Metric Association

Awards a certificate to the student whose project involves a significant amount of quantitative measurement and which best uses the SI metric system for those measurements.

U.S. Navy/Marine Corps - Office of Naval Research

The Office of Naval Research plans, executes, coordinates and promotes

science and technology for the US Navy and Marine Corps through work performed at universities, naval laboratories and industrial research centers. Awards 3 senior division projects a certificate of achievement, a medallion, and a $50 gift certificate and 4 junior division projects a certificate of achievement and a medallion.

Virginia Dental Association: Science Talent Awards Program

Promotes dentistry through the encouragement of experimental exploration of research; awards 20 Certificates of Merit with career information, and a grand regional award of a $100 gift certificate.

Virginia Division, American Water Works Association (VA AWWA)

The VA AWWA science fair awards includes a savings bond and a certificate for first and second winners as selected by the VA AWWA judges for projects dealing with water, particularly drinking water issues. Honorable mention winners will receive a certificate. This award is presented in the Junior and Senior divisions.

Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Award

TheVirginia Lakes and Watersheds Association (VLWA) is a non-profit organization dedicated

to conducting scientific and educational efforts to protect the quality and uses of Virginia’s

Lakes and Watersheds. Awards will be offered to those science fair projects that provide

sound scientific research relating to stormwater studies, water quality improvement and

watershed investigations as they relate to the waters of the Commonwealth. For more

The VLWA will be offering a $100 Target Gift Card to the winner at the Senior Level

($75 cards to each participant if a team project) and a $50 Target Gift Card to the winner

at the Junior Level ($30 cards to each participant if a team project).

Yale Science & Engineering Association

Awards a certificate and medallion to the most outstanding 11th grade student exhibiting in the areas of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
