American baptist home mission societies (national Ministries)is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the National Coordinator for Intercultural Ministries – Native American Churches Strategist. This position provides leadership to help strengthen the ministries and networks of various American Baptist Indian congregations. This position works to create and strengthen ministries in other cultural, intercultural and multicultural contexts. The National Coordinator works to increase the capacity of American Baptist leaders to excel in implementing effective ministries of evangelism, discipleship, transformation and prophetic justice, and the American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ strategic mission and goals. This position is open immediately.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide effective links and resources to American Baptist Indian congregations and their leaders to strengthen their ministries.
  • Collaborate with local leaders to encourage dialogue and improved understanding of the American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ vision, goals, objectives and resources needed by and available to Indian churches and communities
  • Ensure the development of native leadership to serve all aspects of Indian congregational ministries in ways that are culturally and economically appropriate
  • Partner with American Baptist regions to strengthen Indian congregations’ and persons’ connections to the American Baptist Home Mission Societies
  • Build and cultivate relationships with other American Baptists
  • Collaborate with staff toward accomplishing inter-cultural and multicultural priorities and projects
  • Partner with staff toward achieving its strategic priorities.
  • Promote the American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ missions, programs and resources
  • Articulate a compelling case for support through mission giving and the America for Christ Offering
  • Travel required approximately 30% time
  • Other related duties,as assigned.

Competencies andSkills Required

The successful candidate is a Christ-centered servant leader who is also a self-motivated problem-solver and is willing to work hard. The successful candidate should demonstrate interpersonal communication and conflict transformation skills. The successful candidate should possess the ability to build and cultivate networks and relationships with American Baptists. The successful candidate requires excellent administrative and supervisory experience.

Education and Experience

Master’s level theological degree or equivalent training and experience required. A minimum of 5 years of ministry experience required. Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (both for writing and public speaking) required. Experienced leader with a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a collaborative team setting required. Appreciation for and experience working in a multicultural environment is required, and in particular, experience working with the American Baptist Indian communities. Knowledge of denominational history and polity required. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
