Ambulance Clinical Rotation Guidelines and Contract

EMT-Basic

The EMT-B student is required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of field internship on an approved BLS ambulance. Students will observe and/or participate under the direction of the preceptor assigned. Students are required to sign-up in advance for available shifts using Empressems.com . Students must complete a Clinical Rotation Report and have it signed by his/her preceptor.

Location

Unless prior arrangements with the CIC have been made, clinical rotations are held at Yonkers EMS/Empress Ambulance Service, 722 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers. Students are to report 15 minutes prior to the start of their assigned shift.

Dress Code / Equipment

The required dress will be a black polo shirt (no patches or insignia), navy blue EMS-type pants, and black duty boots. Empress will provide a jacket in cooler or inclement weather. A WCC Student ID card must be worn in a clip-on holder at all times and clearly visible. Students will bring a stethoscope, small notepad, black pen, and their Clinical Rotation Report.

Patient Care

The EMT-B student will be assigned to a BLS unit. One EMT will be the assigned preceptor, although both may contribute to the learning experience. Students may participate in patient care under the direction of the preceptor, and must be at the BLS level. Students should only perform skills or techniques where they have a level of mastery and confidence.

Documentation

The EMT-B student will complete a Clinical Rotation Report for each shift, documenting at least three calls on a modified PCR. Students must assure that the preceptor signs the Clinical Rotation Report, and document as appropriate. Preceptors may elect to keep the Clinical Rotation Report and forward it directly to the CIC.

Cancellations

EMT-B students must make every effort to make their assigned shift. Cancellations more than 24 hours in advance can be made by the students on EMpressems.com. Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will require notification to WCC EMS (606-6867) and an email to your CIC.
