Alternative Energy Sources

Alternative Energy Sources

·  Make a PowerPoint presentation on the following energy sources of electricity: coal, solar, tidal, geothermal, wind, biomass, nuclear, hydro

·  Use the following interactive website to help you understand your energy sources:

·  You will be focussing on electricity generation so will not be concerned about anything to do with planes, trains and automobiles (petroleum)

Research and report using the following as a check list and guide:

1.  Include a title slide with name, date, class and title

2.  Navigate through each of those blue “destination” squares to get some basic, general information

3.  Navigate to the specific energy sources using the button pointed to above

4.  Each energy source should include all of the following:

A.  An explanation of the transformations in energy involved (mechanical, solar, thermal, electrical, nuclear, chemical to electrical). Note: There could be more than one

B.  Is the energy source renewable or non renewable?

C.  An explanation of how your energy source works (look in virtual tour, production and equipment sections)

D.  Some pros and cons from the issues and impacts (pan balance) section

5.  Pictures and diagrams to support your information (can use google images, also)

6.  A bibliography noting ALL sources

7.  DO NOT COPY AND PASTE! Not only is it illegal, but there is no learning involved as you are not internalizing/understanding this information. Also, if this is the case, you will not know how to answer test questions later on about your plagiarized info.

8.  You can use google images if they do not have copyright symbols across them as long as you reference the original website they came from (not the google image address!)

9.  If you’re working with a partner, each person should initial the slide they worked on.

You have three library days to finish

Tips:

·  Make sure you have your content first before you waste too much time on your special effects.

·  Keep the display on your slides consistent to avoid wasting time picking out different backgrounds and effects

·  You will be marked according to the completeness (keep referring back to these instructions to check), accuracy of your information, quality/professionalism of your presentation and creativity.
