[Congregation invited to stand]

Welcome and Statement of Purpose

Leader: Greetings in the name of our Saviour and Friend, Jesus Christ.

We are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

If one member suffers, all suffer his pain.

If one member is honored, all share her joy.

We gather as a community of love to bring ourselves and others to Jesus the Great Physician, whose gift is wholeness.

We ask for God’s blessing in body, mind, and spirit.

We open ourselves to the healing ministry of God through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture Sentences

Leader: But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

ALL: ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’

.The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. Lam. 3: 21-25

Hymn - No. 5 – Be still, for the presence of the Lord is here

1.  Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the holy one, is here

Come bow before him now with reverence and fear;

In him no sin is found – we stand on holy ground.

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the holy one, is here.

2.  Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;

He burns with holy fire, with splendor he is crowned;

How awesome is the sight – our radiant King of light!

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

3.  Be still, the for the power of the Lord is moving in this place;

He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace –

No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him.

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

[David Evans]

Prayer of Invocation

Leader: Loving and gracious God, we come in our need to knock on heaven’s door and to ask for your help. We are weak and you are strong, we are empty and your grace overflows, we are fearful and you are faithful.

People: Come to us now, that our prayers might take wing and be the flight of your Spirit; that our faith might be strengthened and our trust in you made firm; that our hope in your kingdom be reawakened; for you are our Saviour and we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen

Responsive Reading

Leader: God, you alone will satisfy our longing.

People: We wait, O God, for You alone.

Leader: We survive by our faith that fears and tombs and

tribulations are preludes to eternal life.

People: We wait, O God, for You alone.

Leader: We wait, hoping to meet You in our gardens of sorrow as You met Mary. We wait for You to come to us behind locked doors of fear as You came to the disciples.

People: We wait, O God, for You alone.

Leader: Soon enough we will walk to the tombs again and discover

resurrection; learning that if weeping endures for a night,

joy comes in the morning.

People: We wait, O God, for You alone.

Leader: And when the morning finally comes,

its light is ever more brilliant as we remember how You

carried us in the night.

ALL: We wait, O God, for You alone. Amen

Songs of Worship

A)  Alleluia, Alleluia, for the Lord God Almighty reigns!

Alleluia, alleluia, for the Lord God Almighty reigns!

Alleluia, holy, holy are you Lord God Almighty,

Worthy is the Lamb, worthy is the Lamb

You are holy, holy are You, Lord God Almighty,

Worthy is the Lamb, worthy is the Lamb. Amen.

B) REF: Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call

Hear O Lord, and have mercy.

My soul is longing for the glory of you,

Hear O Lord, and answer me.

1. Every night before I sleep 2. Why do I no longer feel

I pray my soul to take; Like I’ve a place to stay?

Or else I pray that loneliness O take me where someone will care

is gone when I awake. So fear will go away

REF: REF:

3, In you, O Lord, I place my cares

And all my troubles too.

O grant, dear Lord, that some day soon

I’ll live in peace with you

Prayer of Confession

Leader: [Let us pray]Friends in Christ, God knows our needs

before we ask and in our asking prepares us to receive the gift

of grace.

Let us open our lives to God’s healing presence and forsake all that separates us from God and neighbor. Let us be mindful not only of personal evil but also of communal sins of family, class, race and nation.

Let us confess to God whatever has wounded us or brought injury to others, that we may receive mercy and become for each other ministers of God’s grace.

[Brief period of Silence for Self-examination]

Leader: Let us confess together –

[ALL] Father eternal, giver of light and grace,

We have sinned against you and against our neighbor, in what we have thought, in what we have said or done, through ignorance, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We have wounded your love, and marred your image in us.

We are sorry and ashamed and repent of all our sins.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past; and lead us out from darkness to walk as children of light. Amen

Song of Response -

He is here, hallelujah; he is here, Amen

He is here, holy, holy, I will bless His name again.

He is here, listen closely; hear Him calling out my name

He is here, you can touch Him; you will never be the same.

Welcome Announcements

Hymn – O Christ, the Healer

1.O Christ, the healer, we have come
to pray for health, to plead for friends.
How can we fail to be restored,
when reached by love that never ends?

2 From every ailment flesh endures
our bodies clamor to be freed;
yet in our hearts we would confess
that wholeness is our deepest need.
3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires,
how weak our knowledge of ourselves!
Release in us those healing truths
unconscious pride resists or shelves.
4 In conflicts that destroy our health,
we diagnose the world's disease;
our common life declares our ills:
is there no cure, O Christ, for these?
5 Grant that we all, made one in faith,
in your community may find
the wholeness that, enriching us,
shall reach the whole of humankind.

Hymn - O Saviour, in this quiet place

1.O Savior, in this quiet place,

Where anyone may kneel,

I also come to ask for grace,

Believing You can heal.

2. If pain of body, stress of mind,

Destroys my inward peace

In prayer for others may I find

The secret of release.

3. If self upon its sickness feeds

And turns my life to gall,

Let me not brood upon my needs,

But simply tell You all.

4. You never said, "You ask too much,"

To any troubled soul.

I long to feel Your healing touch;

Will You not make me whole?

5. But if the thing I most desire

Is not Your way for me,

May faith, when tested in the fire,

Prove its integrity.

6. Of all my prayers, may this be chief:

Till faith is fully grown,

Lord, disbelieve my unbelief,

And claim me as Your own.

[Fred Pratt Green; 86 86 [St Stephen ]

Prayer For Healing

Leader: By your power, great God, our Lord Jesus healed the sick and

gave new hope to the hopeless. Though we cannot command or posses your power, we pray for those who want to be healed, especially for the sick, unreconciled, guilt-ridden, abused, anxious, unforgiving, the hurting, silent sufferers, the frightened and the fearful.

Bind their wounds, soothe fevered brows, and make broken people whole again. Help us to welcome every healing as a sign that, though death is against us, you are for us, and have promised renewed and risen life in Jesus Christ the Lord, Amen.

Hymn - #603 – What a friend we have in Jesus

1. What a friend we have in Jesus 2. Have we trials and temptations?

all our sins and griefs to bear! Is there trouble anywhere?

what a privilege to carry We should never be discouraged,

everything to God in prayer! take it to the Lord in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, Can we find a friend so faithful

O what needless pain we bear, who will all our sorrows share?

all because we do not carry Jesus knows our every weakness

everything to God in prayer! take it to the Lord in prayer!

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Jesus only is our refuge:

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do your friends despise, forsake you?

Take it to the Lord in prayer?

In his arms he’ll take and shield you;

you will find a solace there.

[Joseph Scriven}
