Welcome back! I am excited to have you in my class and look forward to having a successful semester.

Why study algebra?

This class will show you extensions and applications of topics covered in algebra 1 and geometry. This class will focus on problem solving, graphing, and modeling.

This class will be interesting and challenging. Your success is not only my goal, but also the goal of Davidson High School. But the most important factor of your success is your effort, dedication and good judgment. I look forward to an exciting semester.

Rules: (please read your student hand book for a list of school-wide rules)

·  Respect yourself and others

·  Be prepared to learn

·  Work when it’s time to work

All school rules will be enforced. This includes rules regarding uniform, cell phones and other electronic devices.

Discipline Policy: (Again, please refer to your student manual)

When you break a rule, the following steps will be taken:

·  First Offense: The student will be asked to fill out a self-discipline referral. I will have a student conference with the student regarding their behavior.

·  Second Offense: The student will fill out a second referral, and then copies of both referrals will be mailed home to inform parent of student’s behavior.

·  Third Offense: After the student fills out their third referral, I will fill out an office referral and send student to office for discipline.

I reserve the right to send any student immediately to the office, if the offense is serious.

Supplies you will need to bring everyday to class:

·  3 ring Binder

·  Paper

·  Graph paper

·  TI graphing calculator

·  mechanical pencils

·  Textbook

Attendance:

Your attendance is important to your success in this class. You are expected to be on time. Please refer to your student handbook regarding Davidson’s tardy and absence policy.

Make-Up Work:

If you are absent you need to communicate with me regarding your make-up work. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain make–up work and turn it in within 3 days of the absence. Be prepared. Please check my school website for assignments. Not completing make-up work will affect your grade. You will have a “1” for that assignment until that grade is made up. Make up test will typically be completed Wednesdays afterschool.

Grading Policy:

·  60% Major Test Grades

·  30% Practice and Tasks

·  10% HW

Assignments/Assessments:

Please be prepared for homework everyday. The best way to be successful in this class is to practice. After practice I will assess your progress with quizzes and then give you feedback so you can correct your work in time to master information for tests. If you need extra help please see me to set up tutoring

An end of quarter test will be given which will count 20% of grade.

Classroom PROCEDURES that we will practice in class:

·  Tardiness – A student should be seated and ready for class when the tardy bell rings. Pencil sharpening should be done before the tardy bell rings. Students not seated and ready to work when the bell rings will be required to obtain a tardy pass.

·  Bathroom/Office passes – Personal needs should be handled between classes. Passes to the bathroom are a privilege and will be provided accordingly. Passes to run errands around the school will not be given.

·  Uniform – In keeping with school policy, proper school uniform is required at all times. ID badges must be worn.

·  Absences

a. Davidson High School strictly enforces the policy regarding excessive absences. Students with more than five (5) unexcused absences will not receive credit for the course. Students are strongly encouraged to attend every class meeting.

b. Do not miss test days. You will not enjoy sitting in the classroom after school taking a make-up test. Make-up tests cannot be taken during class.

These procedures will help ensure a fantastic learning environment for you and those around you. I know we will have a successful year and I am looking forward to teaching you.
