  • Incident Review

- Near Miss - Don Karpiak, Imperial Oil (Strathcona Refinery)

Work Project was inside a tank. The safety watch was inside hoarding (due to weather conditions) and a propane heater was supplying heat to the enclosure. Employee was endangered by lack of breathable air in the enclosure.

  2. Web Page – Actual cost questioned by Lorne Halisky. Final figure not available at this stage. Reminder for Company Logo release forms to be completed.
  3. Constitution - All that remains to be collected up are committee mandates; then to be issued.

Matt presented the Financial Statement (as attached). Discussion about what we should or shouldn’t do with the “GIC”. One possibility is to create a scholarship or use it for certain donations that further the committee’s goals.

A review of financial records is required by March.

  • Old Business

ROSE Committee

Members of the APCSC who are also involved with the ROSE Committee are Marcel Adamkewicz and Matt Corrigan on the Standards Development sub-Committee. The two standards recently submitted for review were:

-Respirator Fit Testing

-Fall Protection

Discussion with respect to the benefits that could be gained from our council interfacing with the ROSE Committee. Matt/Marcel will update us as to any progress.

  • Presentation

Dave Clayton – Syncrude Canada Ltd. presented the Safety system philosophy currently achieving good results at Syncrude.

Safety must be a habit.

Good company’s:

-Practice careful hiring

-Provide good training

-Monitor new employees

-Use Behavior-based safety observations

-“LIVE” their safety philosophy

-Focus “off “ the paperwork system
