Airport HAM Is Closed Until 24Hrs Local Tonite

UPDATE !! APRIL 16TH 11:00 LOCAL

Dear colleagues,

Please find attached the press-release which was given by Air Berlin to the media. This may also be handed out to our passengers if requested. Please also note the following:

-Airport HAM is closed until 24hrs local tonite

-Closure of other German airports is confirmed until 18:00 local local (certain flights ex MUC, STR are operating), with possible extension until 24hrs local

-Due to the high call volume in our service center, Air Berlin will install a 0800-free call number, which will be posted on our website shortly

-Important: passengers of affected flights, may cancel their itinerary free of charge. Rebookings can be done free of charge up to May 31st 2010, for all later departures, rebooking fee and fare difference applies.

-Please note that all German airports except MUC, NUE, STR will be closed and all flights are cancelled until 14:00 local German time.

-sales via Amadeus are closed for ALL flights for today, April 16th 2010

-passengers may also contact Air Berlin within the next 3days in order to rebook their flights. High call volume is expected and passengers should be prepared for longer waiting periods when calling the hotline

-tour-operator passengers where we do not have access to the booking, shell be referred to their tour-operator for rebooking.

Dear colleagues,

due to an volcano eruption on the island of Iceland, there is a cloud of volcanic ash moving eastwards in the direction of Northern-, Western- and Central Europe. For security reasons, air spaces of certain regions have been closed and because of that flights were cancelled.

  • Currently, Air Berlin flights from/to OSL,CPH, and STN are effected!
  • Air Berlin offers its passenger, whose flights are cancelled, to rebook their itinerary free of charge (within Air Berlin resources) or cancel their reservation free of charge.
  • Customers, calling the Air Berlin hotline will be prompted to a separate announcement that informs passengers about the current situation of concerned flights.

  • Please see attached passenger information from our customer service, which can be handed out, together with the “air passenger rights” , on request
  • Sales via Amadeus have been closed for all flights from/to OSL, GOT, CPH, HEL and STN for tomorrow, April 16th 2010, sales via Blank and our website are still open.
  • For passengers, whose flights are cancelled, we can offer to waitlist the next available flight (Amadeus format SS1Y1/PE). Please waitlist all passengers in Y-class, regardless the ticketed class. If the waitlisted flight is operating, you may confirm the waitlist (1/KL --> 1 stands for segment, please ERK to change the status from KL to HK). If possible, please re-issue the existing ticket as an INVOL, if there is no time, please advise the CheckIn to accept the passenger as ticketed. Please make sure to document the booking accordingly.
