AGRICULTURE IN OHIO

American agriculture has changed dramatically over the last few decades. Less than one percent of the U.S. population is directly involved in food production today and few understand how and why these changes have taken place. Lack of understanding causes confusion and sometimes contention, but while today’s farms may look different than they did a generation ago, farmers have not compromised their values or commitment to producing safe, wholesome, affordable, and nutritious food. Agriculture continues to provide jobs and contribute importantly to maintaining a quality rural way of life in the United States.

Ken Ruprecht and his wife, Marilyn, have been milking cows for 34 years at their Ohio family farm. They are committed to providing quality, responsible care to their animals because they know it’s the right thing to do and it’s the legacy they want to leave for their children and grandchildren. Because he knows that strong farming values are what keep Ohio’s rural communities vibrant, Ken has volunteered his time to serve on a variety of community and agricultural boards including the Farm Bureau, Ohio Dairy Producers Association, Soil and Water Conservation District and as a town trustee. Ken has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and spent five years teaching VoAg education.
