National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. Students selected for membership are expected to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

***As stated in the official National Honor Society Constitution, a Faculty Council selected by the principal will vote on the candidate membership. A majority vote on a candidate will cause a rejection or acceptance of membership.

Scholarship: (CCHS-Guidance)

• Student must have a B+ average (GPA of 3.5 and above, weighted)
• Students must be projected to graduate in May 2017, 2018, and 2019

Leadership: (Application)

Leadership criterion is very important. It includes offices a student has held in school or community organizations but not limited to this alone. Leadership roles (but not necessarily elected offices) in both school and community are considered.

The student who exercises leadership:

• Demonstrates initiative in promoting school/community activities
• Is thoroughly dependable in any position of responsibility accepted
• Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals
• Exemplifies positive attitudes

Service: (Resumé)

Service is defined as activities, which the student does with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service.

The student who serves:

• Volunteers and provides dependable assistance and is willing to sacrifice to offer assistance.
• Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities.
• Cheerfully and enthusiastically renders service to the school/community
• Is willing to represent the class or school in interscholastic competition

Character: (3 Teacher Recommendations)

1.Candidate Application Form/

Candidate application must be filled out, complete with initials by sponsors, teachers, or administrators. Then total up all the categories and put those on the Totaled Page.

2. GPA Verification

Candidate must get GPA Verification page filled out and signed by their guidance counselor.

3. Resumé

A formal typed resume is to be submitted with your selection documents, include personal examples of leadership, scholarship, service and character.

4. Teacher Recommendation 1, 2, & 3

Have three teachers complete the recommendation form (for a total of three recommendations) and returned in a sealed envelope with the teachers signature on the seal.
