All staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid ,Safeguarding and Food Hygiene

Committee

One of the ways in which a parent/carer is able to be involved with the running of the pre-school is by being a member of our committee

Our constitution allows us to have up to 12 committee members. One committee member is a staff representative. They meet, along with the staff at least 3 times a year in the Pre-School room. This is usually a weekday evening that is convenient for most. Meetings also take place at other times to discuss other matters including the organisation of various fund raising events. These events include Christmas and Easter activities, auctions etc.

An AGM is held in September/October each year. All parents are given the opportunity to stand for election on the committee.

The committee are responsible for the Pre-School which includes the employment of staff. Any major decisions are made jointly with the staff and committee

The Lead Practitioner is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Pre-School and the AdminManager is responsible for Business & Finance

Ofsted Inspection

Our Pre-School is inspected, without any notice, on a recommended timescale. OFSTED now instructs a company named Prospects to conduct the inspections on their behalf.

We were last inspected July 2015 of which we were thrilled to be judged as “OUTSTANDING” in all areas. A judgement of outstanding means that we are exceptional and significant elements of our work is exemplary

Summary of key findings:

  • Staff have consistently high expectations of themselves and have high aspirations for all children. Their firm belief that all children are competent learners leads to an exceptional commitment to inclusion. They remove barriers to learning and establish first-class partnership working with others, consequently, all children make excellent progress
  • Children’s learning is significantly enhanced, because of staff’s high quality interaction, motivation and enthusiasm, and a highly accessible and vibrant learning environment.
  • Staff build outstanding relationships with parents and others, as part of the excellent settling-in programmes and children’s ongoing care and education. As part of this, there is comprehensive information sharing. Consequently, children’s individual needs are exceedingly met.
  • Staff model excellent social skills. As a result, children’s behaviour is exceptional and they are highly sociable. They negotiate and share ideas during animated play, and are extremely helpful and kind to one another.
  • Staff ignite children’s curiosity, and their thirst and enthusiasm for learning, with a wealth of first-hand experiences. Children thoroughly enjoy recalling and reflecting on such experiences, captured in photograph booklets sited in the reading area.
  • Parents are exceptionally well informed about their children’s learning and development, and are magnificently involved in supporting this at home.
  • The committee and staff have a thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities, as a result of first-class induction. Therefore, they implement the early Years Foundation Stage with outstanding success

Adult resources

We are proud of the high ratio of adults to children in our group. This ensures individual attention to the needs and development of each child. We can offer a high level of individual adult input, with an adult/child ratio of at 1:8 for 3-5 yr olds and 1:4 for 2 yr olds. These are the legal requirements but we do operate with a higher level of staff to children

Key Persons

One of our Practitioners will act as key person to your child. This person will be responsible for settling your child into pre-school and is a point of contact for parents/carers. However parents /carers are welcome to speak to any of the other Practitioners at any time. The key person is also responsible for the observing, assessing and planning for your child.

The role of parents

Everyone in the childcare profession recognises parents as the first and important educators of their young children. Our Pre-school aims to support parents. Parents are welcome to:

  • “Stay and Play” (see details below)
  • share their own special interests with us
  • work with their child’s key person in contributing to their child’s developmental journey
  • help to provide, make and look after the equipment and materials used in the children’s play activities
  • assist with fund raising
  • take part in the management of the pre-school by being a Committee member

“Stay and Play”

Once your child attends morning sessions, which is during the last year they are with us prior to going to school, parents can if they wish, “Stay and Play”. Helping out enables parents to see what the day to day life of the setting is like and to join in helping the children to get the best out of their activities. This would be once a term. All our “Stay and Play” parents are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service(DBS) prior to helping. Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to bring any other child to this session

If when you help out, you find that initially your child is especially clingy and possessive, don’t worry, this almost always happens, and he/she will get less clingy as time goes on.

Whilst at the session, it is a good time to discuss your child's progress with the staff, if you wish to do so.

More details will be given to you nearer the time about becoming a “Stay and Play” parent.

At the end of each academic year, we ask parents to complete a feedback form which helps us to evaluate our practice.

“Thank you for making my children’s lives at pre-school a happy time and given them happy memories and confidence for the rest of their lives”

“Pre-school is the only place he is happy to go without me!”

“From the very first day I felt happy and relaxed about leaving her. She settled really well and I believe this was because of the combination of a happy relaxed environment along with friendly, warm and happy teachers” “A happy child makes a very happy Mummy”

“It has definitely helped build her confidence and being at this pre-school will ease her transition into school”

“Thank you for making my child’s first year at pre-school an amazing experience”

“It is a wonderful pre-school- friendly and fun where my children has loved being. I have never worried about leaving them in such good hands. As we as a family come to the end of our pre-school years- all I can say is thank you. You have made it so easy and special and has given them memories that will last. We are very lucky our children love you all and will miss you a lot”

Premises

School premises- safety and security

The following points are requests that have been initially made by the Primary School and have our support, ensuring the safety of all children at all times.

Car parking

Primary School ask their parents not to park in the turning circle/lay-by outside school or attempt to drive into or park in the barriered staff car park. We must also ask this of our parents.

For safety reasons please do not walk through the car park but use the school footpaths.

School play equipment

Please do not allow pre-school children and younger siblings to play on the outdoor school equipment. The main reasons for this are safety and security.

Gates

Please ensure that the gates around the playground are re-boltedonce you have used them.

Footpaths

Please do not use the school gate leading in from half way up Back Beck Lane at any time other than at the start of the morning session and at the end of the afternoon session. Please walk all the way down back Beck Lane and use the footpath leading up from Bolton Road. As you may appreciate the use of the paths in the school playground during school hours imposes security risks and distraction to pupils.

What to wear

In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send your child to pre-school dressed in clothes which are easily washable and not new. It is good for children to practice skills, which will make them independent. Simple clothing that they can fasten themselves will enable them to go to the toilet independently.
