Subject: RE: Procedures for Granting ACE credit for NBPTS Certification

I have had some recent communication about some National Board Certified Teachers having difficulty getting the ACE credit for their NBPTS certification transcripted at the public universities (see excerpts below).

A Cynthia Nelson with a Sioux Falls address sent a "Registry of Credit Recommendation" sheet to the registrar with two classes that were taken in 2001. She told the registrar's office that you said they are to put those classes on her transcript. This student already graduated from USD with a degree (not sure when) and it is the registrar's policy that classes are entered on a transcript unless you are working on an advanced degree.

Cynthia reminded them of the process and cost, but a couple said that they had followed the procedures only to be told by the university that ‘they’ didn’t know about the credit – so our question to you is if there is a contact person at each of our Universities that teachers could contact for any clarification of specific processes that might be needed so that they aren’t going through the frustration of repeated inter-university people referrals?

There may be some confusion on the part of the teachers (ie., the need for an official ACE transcript sent directly to the institution and needing to have a transcript record with the respective institution), but I would ask that each of you make certain that personnel in the registrars’ offices are aware of the information and processes outlined in the email below (not necessary to be currently enrolled in graduate studies).

The message below was also sent to the Education Deans and the Lead Team for SD’s National Board Certified Teachers this past July, but I’m certain that Marlene Rothermel copied on the message above will also forward this message to them again.

Thanks to everyone for assisting in getting this process clarified.
