LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents:

I extend to you my warmest treating. Hopefully as we anticipate the start of Spring in a few weeks, we will begin to experience great weather.

Our Iowa Assessment Standardized Testing will begin on March 5 through March 9th for students in Grades 2-8. Hopefully, you received the information letter sent home on Friday, February 23rd. This letter comes from the Archdiocese of Newark who decided to make the change to the Iowa Assessment Standardized Testing from the Terra Nova which was given during the past years. Hopefully, your child brought this important letter home to you.

Attached to my Principal’s Letter is a letter from Dr. Margaret Dames, Superintendent of Schools.

I would just like to add my words as we pray for the school community in Parkland, Florida each day. Also to reassure you, our school does have safety procedures in place. The teachers have prepared the student for Lock Down Drills which we have had. All our school doors are locked and no one is allowed in the building unless we know the person and they are expected to visit.

There are security cameras at all the door and hallways of the school and security monitor in the office. Our School Counselor is attending a workshop this week to be able to speak to students and parents to give them guidance and support during this stressful time. I assure you that the teachers and myself do our best each day to make sure your children are safe while under our care.

We congratulate our Eighth Grade Students Edward Kelleher and Mark Rajah who participated and were winners in the Martin Luther King Oratory Contest. We are very proud of Edward and Mark who worked very hard to accomplish this.

We also congratulate Thaddeus Mantilla and Joel Rajah who participated in the Oratory Contest for Grade 5. Thank you boys!

Our Sip & Paint Fundraiser will be held on Friday March 16th at 7:00 PM. Ticket order forms have been sent home. Hopefully, you are able to come and enjoy this fun night and also will help support our school. Mrs. Edna Brown has been working very hard to make this a successful Event. Please join us for the Sip & Paint Night. In addition, there will be wonderful entertainment by Salsa Dancer – Amanda Estilo and Latin Singer – Drelai. It should be a great night!

We will be having another Open House for New Families on Monday, March 12th from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM. Please let family members, friends and neighbors know about our great school and invite them to our Open House.

Our second grade students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation

for the first time on Saturday, March 17th at 10:15 AM. We extend our Congratulations and Prayers to these Students.

On March 2nd we will celebrate Reading Across America Day – Dr. Seuse Birthday. Upper grade students will read to younger students that day. Our students should have an enjoyable day.

We will celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph, our Patron on Monday, March 19th. Please join us for Mass at 8:45 AM that day to celebrate our Feast Day.

Our Easter Recess will begin on Wednesday, March 28 at 12:00/Noon. We will be on Easter Recess from March 28th until Monday, April 9th.

I will distribute Second Trimester Report Cards to students on Wednesday, March 14th. Please be on the lookout for your child’s Report Card that day.

We will be conducting Re-Registration days for the 2018-2019 very soon. Once we have the dates set, we will send home the information to you within the next week. We usually hold registrations on evenings, mornings, and afternoon – whatever time is most convenient for you.

As always, I thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

God Bless you,

John Richards

Principal
