ABC Collection Data:

ABC charting is a method of data collection in special education and other school settings. It investigates the antecedent (A), behavior (B), and consequence (C) of actions. ABC charting is primarily used to develop functional behavior assessments and behavior plans.

Data will be drawn from actively certified JV and varsity officials who complete the ABC charts. From the ABC charts, in order for the sample to be valid, a true representation of all games, the 70 % criteria must be met. The number of officials electing to participate in the data collection of yellow and red cards given from September 1st to September 10th of the 2012 season must also meet the 70% criteria.

So, for research to have statistical significance basic criteria of 70% of the officialsmust participate, and 70% of the totals games played that cards are issued and 70% ofall games played for the 2012 season, Sept 1-10, must be reported in order for the study to be valid.

Totals of all data collected will then be tabulated and graphs will be generated to show trends in the issuing of cards. The information will then be discussed at the mid season meeting, Sept 20th, to better inform officials of the situations involving cards and methods of dealing with them.

The information gathered will be used as a teaching tool to alert officials of trends of cards. Officials will then be given some proactive strategies to prevent the occurrences’ of card related behaviors. The collection period will be 10 days in September, 1-10, 2012.

I was unable to find any studies of this kind using the ABC model so the research is novel its sole purpose is the betterment of boys High School Soccer.
