AAA is forecasting the number of travelers for the Thanksgiving holiday to be the highest since 2005.

AAA spokesperson Don Redman says the higher number of travelers is likely a sign of confidence in the economy.

Redman says on the national level, over 54million travelers are expected to be in transit, with a bulk of that by car. That’s a five percent increase over last year. Redman says when it comes to our region…

Redman says those who are taking to the air may want to arrive at the airport earlier than normal.

AAA also cautions motorists to be careful when returning home on Sunday.

Gwen Collins-Greenup, candidate for Secretary of State in the December 8election, was in Tangipahoa Parish Sunday afternoon to meet with a number of her key supporters.

Among those present were School Board member Walter Daniels, Amite City Councilman Kris Hart, Democratice State Central Committee member Michael Martin, Democratice Parish Executive Committee Chair Vanessa Williams, and Democratice Parish Executive Committee member Tom Hogan.

Collins-Greenup confirmed that Jennifer Smith, a well-known political consultant, is now directing her media campaign.

She says one of her main goals is to increase voter participation in Louisiana elections.

Almost 1,500 signatures have been received on an on-line petition urging the public to support an effort by the Save Our Manchac Coalition to preserve the Manchac area’s natural identity.

Another 250 signatures have been received on a paper ballot.

A group of investors wants to get control of the 40-acre Port Manchac site to develop an eco-tourism community of condos, single family residencies, apartments, and a hotel.

The proposal calls for four large canals to be cut through the acreage to provide boat access to the residences.

The South Tangipahoa Parish Port Commission is awaiting a determination from the state attorney general as to whether a state owned port site can be used for residential purposes.

Louisiana can now enforce a law barring anyone under the age of 21 from working as an erotic dancer in bars and nightclubs.

That law, passed in 2016, had been held up after a federal court declared it too vague.

But the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal in New Orleans has reversed its previous ruling, thereby validating the law.

The law was blocked after a challenge from three women who said the restriction cost them their lucrative dancing jobs and violated their first amendment rights.

A new drug has been developed to mitigate the potentially deadly effects peanut allergies in children.

LSU Health New Orleans Allergy Unit says the drug is not for light allergy sufferers, and does not open the way for eating large amounts of peanut products, but does protect those who eat foods cooked in peanut oil.

Accidently eating peanut products will not result in a life threatening condition.

The treatment is still awaiting FDA approval.

A federal judge in San Francisco yesterday barred the Trump administration from refusing asylum to immigrants who cross the southern border illegally.

President Trump issued a proclamation on Nov. 9 that said anyone who crossed the southern border would be ineligible for asylum.

The judge, who was nominated by President Obama in 2012issued a temporary restraining order after hearing arguments in San Francisco.

The Trump administration has not said if it will appeal the ruling.

The request was made by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights, which quickly sued after President Trump issued the ban this month in response to the caravans of migrants that have started to arrive at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Migrants who cross illegally are generally arrested and often seek asylum or some other form of protection.
