PETROZAVODSK, RUSSIA, OCTOBER 11– 14, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

Institute of Biology, Karelian Research Centre, Russian Academy of Science (IB, KRC of RAS), Society of Parasitologists of the Russian Academy of Science, and Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Science (ZIN RAS) are pleased to invite you to take part in theINTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM«Parasites of the Holarctic Region»to be held at the Institute of Biology, Karelian Research Centre of RAS, Petrozavodsk, Russia on October 11thto 14th, 2010.

Introduction

The Symposium will be of interest to a diverse audience of scientists from different branches of basic and applied parasitology because various aspects of parasites will be covered at the plenary, symposium and poster sessions. Special attention will be given to current achievements in molecular taxonomy and phylogenetics, host-parasite interactions, classical taxonomy and systematics, ecology and bioindication, etc. Among the purposes of the Symposium is re-establishment of contacts between scientific centres and active working groups from different countries.

Location

Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia since the 17thcentury, is situated on the shores of the vast beautiful LakeOnego, 400 km to the North of St. Petersburg. The city is the largest centre of education and culture in North-West Russia. Preliminary programme:

Preliminary programme of the Symposium includes the following main sessions:

  • Parasite fauna, systematics and phylogeny.
  • Parasite ecology and population biology, host-parasite relations.
  • Biochemistry, molecular biology and immunology of parasites.
  • Biology, morphology and ultrastructure of parasites.
  • Human impact on parasitic communities, parasite-related problems of aquaculture and farming, research into epizootics of pathogenic parasites.
