A RESOLUTION honoring the Madison Central High School Lady Indians Girls' Basketball Team, 2013 11th Region Champions.

WHEREAS, on March 2, 2013, at Alumni Hall on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, the Madison Central High School Lady Indians defeated the Generals of Lexington Lafayette High School 45-34 to win the 2013 11th Region Championship and earn a trip to the KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen; and

WHEREAS, the regional championship was Madison Central's second in a row and the second in school history; and

WHEREAS, although they were defeated in the opening round of the Sweet Sixteen, the Lady Indians and their fans can take enormous pride in a successful season which saw them record 29 wins against only 5 losses, including a perfect 3-0 record in the district and a 14-1 mark against 11th Region competition; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians started quickly this season, racing to a 8-1 mark out of the gate, and compiled winning streaks of nine and ten games on their journey to Diddle Arena; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians were led on the floor by seniors Larryn Brooks, who averaged 19.2 points per game, and Ashton Feldhaus, who averaged 15.7; and

WHEREAS, other starters for Madison Central included senior Heather Hinkle and juniors Bailey O'Bryan and Shadae Bosley; and

WHEREAS, other members of the Lady Indians, a squad that had only three seniors, were juniors Haley Christian and Aryn Singer; sophomores Raevin Cain, Kristen Dillon, Emily Fultz, and Sarah Reister; freshmen Kenadee Everly, Nia Hawkins, Jasmine Turpin, Sydney Vaugh, and Emily Willoughby; and 8th graders Laylee Burchell, Abbey Hotchkiss, Lindsay Johns, and Emma Reister; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians were guided to the championship by Head Coach Robbie Cooksey, who in five years has compiled a record of 129 wins against only 31 losses, and has taken the team on its only two trips to the Sweet Sixteen; and

WHEREAS, Cooksey was assisted by Jessica Tipton, Brad Lovely, and Shane Lakes; and

WHEREAS, the achievements of the Madison Central Lady Indians and the dedication and excellence exhibited by this talented group of young women are worthy of public recognition;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Members of this Honorable Body, both individually and collectively, do hereby congratulate the Madison Central High School Lady Indians, Head Coach Robbie Cooksey and his assistants and support staff, Athletic Director Philip Wilson, and Principal Elmer Thomas upon winning the 2013 KHSAA Girls' 11th Region Championship, and wish them good fortune in all future endeavors.

Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall forward a copy of this Resolution to Senator Jared Carpenter for presentation to the team.
