A Program for parents to strengthen their

family relationships and promote

well-being in their children

What is Together Parenting?

Together Parenting is a group program for all parents of primary school aged children who want to:

  • enhance their relationship with their child(ren)
  • have an opportunity to discuss and reflect on parenting issues
  • explore reasons underlying their child’s behaviour
  • learn more effective parenting ways of dealing with children’s behaviour
  • think about ways of parenting that are different from the way they were parented when they were growing up

Who comes to Together Parenting Programs?

Many parents attend the Program because they have a child who is experiencing difficulties and they want to help their child. Some of the more common concerns these parents have are listed below. They describe a child who:

  • has difficulty making or keeping friends
  • can become isolated or withdrawn
  • often behaves in aggressive, bossy or dominating ways
  • has difficulty sharing
  • acts impulsively
  • has difficulty dealing with emotions
  • experiences difficulties with separation and becomes clingy and attention seeking
  • has emotionally based learning difficulties
  • can become worried or anxious
  • has experienced loss or grief through illness, death or parental separation.

If one or more of these descriptions relate to your child, then come along to the Together Parenting Program.

  • meet with a group of 8-10 other parents who want to help their children
  • sessions are held once a week for 10 weeks.
  • each session lasts for 2 hours.
  • parents can attend on their own or with their partner
  • parents must be prepared to attend all of the sessions in order to get the most out of the program.

What will the groups be doing?

The group will be run by one or two group leaders trained in the Together Parenting Program. This program is discussion based and offers a flexible approach to enable leaders to meet the needs of the participating parents.
