9th Grade Teen Living

Semester class: 0.5 credits

Welcome to Teen Living! I am really excited about this class! I think it will be a lot of fun and has the potential to be one of your most useful classes. We will be learning about many things including, but not limited to, coping with personal, family, and social challenges, communication, decision-making skills, and building relationships. We will address issues that impact your life such as: self-concept, substance abuse, personal loss, dating, teen pregnancy, and child abuse. Hopefully, you will learn a little bit more about how to take personal responsibility for your life. It is up to you how much you learn in this class.

Materials needed: You will not need to purchase any materials for this class right away. Towards the end of the semester we will be doing the flour sack baby project and you will need to provide a 10 lb sack of flour for your self. If you have any problems with this please let me know and one will be provided for you. A simple note book and a binder will be provided to keep work in. These should NEVER leave class until the end of the semester!

Making up work: When ever you are absent you will miss something. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and what you need to do to make up the work. We will be doing a lot of class discussion and group work so it is very important to be in class everyday. Do everything you can so that you don’t have to miss class.

Late work: Late work will always be accepted but for every class period that an assignment is late, 10% will be taken off. Talk to me about individual situations to see what arrangements can be made.

Classroom Rule:

Don’t cause a problem for anyone else!!

Life Savers: Each student will be given 3 life saver passes for the entire semester. These can be used for a number of things, including: a hall pass, full credit on a late assignment, etc. Use them wisely!! If you lose them you will not receive more…keep track of them!

I really hope that you will enjoy this class. I hope that we will all be able to respect each other and become comfortable with each other. Because of the nature of the class, a lot of discussion will take place and will really enhance the effectiveness of the class. Please be ready to contribute to these discussions with your ideas, experiences and opinions!

Thanks!

Mrs. Higbee
