SCHEDULES CHANGES
Please discuss thoroughly what electives are desired and needed. Students will not be allowed to request specific teachers when making schedule changes or for period preferences. No schedule changes will be allowed after the first 3 days of the trimester. After 3 days student will receive an F if a class is dropped.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students need 70 credits to graduate. Required courses below amount to 44 and any 26 elective courses are required. Students are required to carry a minimum of six credits each trimester, but can choose to carry up to 7 each trimester. The following is a credit check sheet used to mark off student’s progress.
Students must have: 4 years of English (12 trimesters) 3 Years of Science (9 trimesters)
3 years of Math (9 trimesters) 3 Years of Social Studies (9 trimesters)
4 trimesters of PE (1 each year) 1 trimester of Computer
26 trimesters of Elective Credits

REGENT FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS & RAI
If a student wishes to enter a four-year college they must take these courses to be admitted.
These courses are considered “Core Courses”
Ø 4 years of English
*Technical Writing, Spring Play & Fall Play are not recognized by 4-year colleges for admission
or for a student’s RAI score.
Ø 3 years of Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry)
Ø 3 years of Science (Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
Ø 3 years of Social Studies * Applied Social Awareness is not recognized by 4-year colleges for admission or for a student’s RAI score.
Ø 2 years of Foreign Language for the University of Iowa, most other colleges do not require this. *Spanish Mentoring is not recognized by 4-year colleges for admission or RAI score
Ø Electives – specific electives and number of electives depends on the college
TWO-YEAR COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students desiring to enter a 2-year college, require a high school diploma or GED for admission. However, students are recommended to follow the 4-year college entrance requirement curriculum to enable them to be more successful in college especially if they plan to transfer to a 4-year college.
NCAA ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS
Students who plan to be involved in Division I or II athletics should be aware of the NCAA regulations in this area. Students must register on-line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. This should be addressed during a student’s junior year or early in the senior year.
MATH SEQUENCING AND PLACEMENT
All math classes must be taken sequentially. If a student fails a class the student would be required to take the entire year of that class over or the student would be required to complete another year of math in a different class. Example would be that if Sam Student fails Elementary Algebra second trimester, Sam’s options are to repeat every trimester of Elementary Algebra or go on to Algebra for all three trimesters.
SCIENCE SEQUENCING AND PLACEMENT
Students will be placed into science courses according to ITBS scores, previous academic performance at the middle school level and career/college plans. Students with low or non-proficient scores and with low performance indicators from the middle school level will be enrolled into Ecology for their freshman year. Students that have taken Ecology are expected to take physical science and biology during the next two school years. Students that have scored at a proficient level and have adequate performance levels will be enrolled into physical science for their freshman year and will take biology during the sophomore year. Students planning to go to a 4-year college either right away or after community college are recommended to take Physical Science their freshman year, Biology their sophomore year, and Chemistry their Junior year.

AGRICULTURE
Agriculture I (6001, 6002, 6003) Not a required course Non-RAI course Grades 9-10 3 Trimesters
Agriculture I will introduce students to career opportunities in the science of agriculture and natural resources. Students will acquire leadership, communication and recordkeeping skills. Emphasis will be on animal and food science.
Agriculture II (6004, 6005, 6006) Not a required course Non-RAI course Grades 9-10 3 Trimesters Students enrolled in this course will develop career skills and competencies in natural resources, agriculture business and agriculture mechanics. Areas of emphasis will include soil and water conservation, agriculture business structures, job seeking skills, and agriculture sales. Students will also develop skills in agricultural safety, project planning and budgeting, agricultural construction, and welding.
Introduction to Horticulture (6015) Not a required course Grades 9-10 Non-RAI course 1 Trimester Horticulture principals will be taught in this course. Students will learn the basics of horticulture including; plant growth and development, greenhouse operations, and landscaping. Activities will include classroom instruction and laboratory work.
ART - Students who want to take all other art classes must first take Art Fundamentals.
Art Fundamentals A (6912) Not required Non-RAI Grades 9-12 1 Trimester
Prerequisite for Drawing I and Painting I
This course will concentrate on elements of art (line, shape, color, space, and value), as well as principles of art (emphasis balance, harmony, variety, & proportion). The emphasis is skill development, commitment to art problem solving, and creativity. Each student will come away from this course with a basic understanding of and appreciation for the visual arts.
Art Fundamentals B (6913) Not required Non-RAI Grades 9-12 1 Trimester Prerequisite for Hand-Built Pottery, Jewelry, & Sculpture.
This course will concentrate on elements of art (line, shape, form, and texture), as well as principles of art (balance, harmony, & proportion). The emphasis is skill development, commitment to art problem solving, and creativity. Each student will come away from this course with a basic understanding of and appreciation for the visual arts.
Art Fundamentals C (6914) Not required Non-RAI Grades 9-12 1 Trimester
Prerequisite for Printmaking & Photography courses.
This course will concentrate on elements of art (line, shape, color, space, & value) as well as principles of art (variety, balance, emphasis & pattern). The emphasis is skill development , commitment to art problem solving, and creativity. Each student will come away from this course with a basic understanding of and appreciation for the visual arts.
Drawing I (6917) Not required Non-RAI Grades 10-12 1 Trimester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals
Students will produce a variety of drawings using materials such as ink, ink wash, cray-pas, charcoal, and pencil. Emphasis will be placed on still life, outdoor sketches, and the human figure. Realism will be emphasized.
Drawing II (6918) Not required Non-RAI Grades 10-12 1 Trimester
Prerequisite: Drawing I
Students will expand on techniques used in Drawing I. Projects will become more self-directed and students will be able to use self-expression in their choices. Students will also build on previous Art History knowledge learned in Drawing I.
Graphic Design (6915) Not required Non-RAI Grades 10-12 1 Trimester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals
This course introduces students to graphic design as a form of visual communication through the use of type, image, form, and color. Design layout, creative problem solving, and basic design practices are explored through projects such as posters, advertisements, brochures, and CD designs.
