Route Four

8½ Mile circular route at an average speed of 5 mph, which will be 1¾ hours of cycling.

Strelley – Cossall – Swingate

Starting from Strelley Hall, head south by turning left as you leave the hall.

On reaching the left hand bend in the lane, take the cycle track to the right.

After 5oo yards the track splits into two, take the right hand track, this track is more of a farm track.

Follow the track over the motorway, the trail will go from a farm track to more of a cycle track, and continue to Dead Lane in Cossall, approximately one mile.

Within yards of reaching Dead Lane, join the canal path running alongside the old Nottingham Canal.

Turning right onto the canal path, heading northwest, within 500 yards you will meet a track running across, running left to right, on exiting the pinch point, turn left onto the track.

Within a couple of hundred yards you will reach the Erewash Canal, turn right onto the towpath and head north.

In one mile, come off the towpath and turn right onto the Awsworth Road.

Now continue in a easterly direction until reach Shilo Way, A6096.

Cross Shilo Way with care, turning right, within yards turn left onto the cycle track, again within yards, take the left hand track, this will take you onto Newton’s Lane.

Continue along Newton’s Lane, cross over ‘The Lane’/Awsworth Lane into Westby Lane.

Continue along Westby Lane, after 5oo yards the lane turns right, and then sharp left, at this point there is a track to the right, do not go this way.

Keep on Westby Lane until the lane forks into two directions, take the left side, the lane becomes Babbington Lane.

On arrival at the ‘T’ junction, turn right and continue on Babbington Lane until you arrive at Swingate.

Name the pub near the junction.

At the ‘T’ junction turn right and head south, after a short distance the road becomes a track, continue along this track.

After ¾ mile the track goes back over the motorway and returns to Strelley Hall.
