4th Six Weeks Grading Period

Bell Ringers – Throughout the semester

Students are to spend the first 10 minutes of class reading online news and looking for photographs that display the theme of that week’s assignment. On the final day of the week, you must print your news summaries and/or photo examples in a word format and place them into the photojournalism basket between the printers for grading. News summaries need to be written in your own words and need only to be long enough to tell me what you read. Photos need a description as to how the fit the week’s theme.

Lesson 1 –Photography Defined & Photo Composition–January19 – 31

Students will learn the definition and foundation of photography as well as general composition techniques. They will use the Focus on Photography textbook. There will be worksheets and quizzes throughout.

Lesson 2 –Getting to know your camera – February 1 – 4

Students need to bring their cameras, batteries, chargers (and/or extra batteries), camera memory cards and their camera manuals to class each day. We will spend this time getting to know your cameras, the settings and capabilities of it and general composition techniques. There will be worksheets and quizzes throughout.

Lesson3 –Textures - Week of February7

Take a minimum of 30 shots of textures. Look for interesting things that tend to make people want to touch your photo to feel the texture. Turn in: 30 of your best photos, photo log, and your best shot labeled clearly on your jump drive by Friday, February 11.

Lesson 4– Lines/Ovals & Circles - Week of February 14

Take a minimum of 15 shotsof things with lines and 15 of things with circles and ovals, make a contact sheet. Turn in: contact print, photo log, and your best shots of lines and circles/ovals clearly labeled on your jump drive by Friday, February 18.

Lesson 5 – Objects and Their Shadows - Week of February 21 (President’s Day Holiday Feb. 21)

Take a minimum of 30 shots of an object or part of it along with its shadow. Turn in: contact print, photo log, and your best shot labeled clearly on your jump drive by Friday, February 25.

Lesson 5 - Mock TAKS– Week of February 28

No assignments due this week.

***Six Weeks Ends – March 4***

*** If you miss a day, you may come in before school Monday – Friday from 7 – 7:50 am or Monday – Thursday from 3:45 – 4:15 pm to finish in tutorials. All best shots are counted as test grades and everything else as daily grades.
