Stewards accepted the explanation of TrainersA Trinder& G McCulloch for the late notification of riders tonight.

RACE 1 – OAKS DAY FASHIONS FOR FILLIES 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE–1420 METRES

Ebideliah jumped awkwardly then had to be checked to avoid the heels of Flying Stevie.

Brandy Straight jumped inwards and made heavy contact with Give Me A Tip which was hampered.

In the early stages Don’t Tell Kayla raced wide.

Near the 1200 metres Give Me A Tip shifted in towards the running rail and raced awkwardly for a short distance.

Passing the 600 metres Sapphire Storm shifted in towards the heels of Must Confess and for some distance was restrained to avoid the heels of that gelding. Sapphire Storm continued to race greenly for a short distance.

Approaching the 400 metres Brandy Straight brushed the running rail.

Passing the 400 metres Manazieva was briefly held up for a run.

In the early part of the home straight Sapphire Storm became unbalanced when tightened for room between Correct Change and Count Palatine.

Approaching the 200 metres Western Front shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.

From the 200 metres until the winning post Sapphire Storm laid in when under pressure.

Approaching the 100 metres Correct Change was briefly held up behind Brandy Straight.

RACE 2 – BETFAIR LAUNCESTON CUP TRIAL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE– 1220 METRES

Shortly after the start Raky’s Late had to be checked when tightened for room between Tambro’s Game and High Hill which shifted in away from Flying Dami.

Passing the 1100 metres Liberty Heights became unbalanced after being contacted by Breeze Attack which shifted in away from Kool Kash.

Near the 1000 metres Breeze Attack had to be checked when tightened for room between Liberty Heights and Kool Kash which was taken in slightly by Roser’s Quest (Kim Moore) which shifted in when not fully clear. Kim Moore was severely reprimandedunder AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that she would be expected to do more sooner to protect her fellow riders. In assessing not to impose a more severe penalty Stewards were mindful that Kim Moore demonstrated that she had attempted to straighten her mount just prior to Breeze Attack having to be checked.

Near the 800 metres Settler’s Stone got its head up when over racing.

High Hill which was following also got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Settler’s Stone.

For some distance passing the 800 metres Roser’s Quest over-raced.

In the early part of the home straight Magnasa had to be eased to avoid the heels of Ryan’s Daughter.

Ismail Toker rider of Flying Dami which performed below expectations explained that after being caught wide without cover throughout the filly failed to respond to his riding.

RACE 3 – BOATHOUSE CALCUTTA CUP EVE CLASS 4 HANDICAP- 1220 METRES

Shortly after the start Sound Bar shifted out and took Merrick’s Beauty out onto Huss Style.

Passing the 1200 metres Father Ned was restrained to avoid the heels of Smoke ‘N’ Whisky which shifted in.

Near the 1200 metres Hammer Time when racing tight to the inside of Smoke ‘N’ Whisky shifted in away from that gelding and brushed Wills Hope.

Hammer Time raced greenly and displayed a tendency to hang out throughout the race. Daniel Ganderton rider of the gelding then did not ride out in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Hammer Time revealed that this gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Adam Trinder was advised of the provisions of AR 53A (4) in that Hammer Time may not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective today, where after it is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

Rounding the home turn Merrick’s Beauty was briefly held up for a run.

Ismail Toker rider of Lazy Democracy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137(c) in that he used a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line and was subsequently fined the sum of $200.

RACE 4 – BETFAIR LAUNCESTON CUP AMBASSADOR MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE- 1620 METRES

After being placed in the barriers Setoni became fractious, reared over and harmlessly dislodged rider Hayley McCarthy. After being removed from the barrier and undergoing a veterinary examination Setoni was declared a late scratching at 8.01 pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Setoni to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 8.01 pm were to be paid less two cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and two cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. Trainer L Laskey was advised that Setoni must complete a satisfactory barrier test before racing again.

Our Mummy’s Boy jumped away awkwardly.

Artie Luvstoparty made the home turn awkwardly.

In the home straight Knots And Crosses displayed a tendency to lay in.

Approaching the 100 metres Mercyful Fate was inconvenienced when tightened for room between Knots And Crosses and Flying Ensign which was hanging in when under pressure.

RACE 5 – CUP GOLF DAY @ MOWBRAY CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1220 METRES

Niloufar was slow to begin (1L).

On jumping away He’s Applz jumped inwards and made contact with Mundine before shifting out and bumping with Geegees Brightstar. He’s Applz then shifted in and again made contact with Mundine which was then restrained to avoid the heels of Geegees Goldengirl.

In the early and middle stages He’s Applz got its head up when over racing.

Near the 700 metres He’s Applz hung out and inconvenienced Geegees Goldengirl.

Georgie Catania rider of He’s Applz was found guilty of charge under AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that near the 400 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Gotta Have Vibe resulting in that mare being tightened and losing ground. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a low level. Georgie Catania’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 1 Tasmanian race meeting to commence at midnight 30 November 2014 and to expire at midnight 3 December 2014. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Miss Catania’s good record in relation to this rule.

Geegees Brightstar raced wide throughout.

RACE 6 – YOUNG MEMBERS ENCLOSURE @ LAUNCESTON CUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP- 1420 METRES

Mensa Magic was slow into stride and was then inconvenienced by Shiraleewhich shifted in slightly.

Shortly after the start Geegees Drummerboy was taken out slightly by Geegee’s Clang resulting in Varian being contacted then shifting out further onto Anpao.

Near the 1200 metres Shiralee was hampered when tightened for room between Littlemiss Matilda and Northern Lady which shifted in slightly.

During the middle stages Tycoon Gypsy got its head up when over racing and then near the 700 metres was restrained to avoid the heels of Northern Lady (A Darmanin) which shifted in when not quite clear. Anthony Darmanin was reminded of his obligations to ensure he is clear of other runners when allowing his mount to shift ground in similar circumstances.

Shortly after this Tycoon Gypsy and Geegees Drummerboy got their heads up when being restrained due to the pace slackening after Northern Lady obtained the lead.

Passing the 800 metres Varian had to be checked after improving up onto the heels of Anpao.

RACE 7 – BETFAIR LAUNCESTON CUP 25TH FEBRUARY BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP– 2150 METRES

In the early and middle stages Another Lad Al over-raced.

Near the 400 metres Gee Gee Miss Bee was tightened for room by Can Get Thirsty which rolled in. Digger’s Dame was hampered in consequence.

Ismail Toker rider of Gee Gee’s Boss which commenced to give ground from the 400 metres and was eased down in the home straight explained that the gelding over-raced in the early and middle stages and in his view this may have contributed to its performance.

RACE 8 – CORPORATE MARQUEE @ LAUNCESTON CUP BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 1420 METRES

Stewards intend to inquire into the reasons for Yuppony being tightened near the 1200 metres.

Near the 400 metres Our Clangalang hung in.

Bulent Muhcu rider of Grey Gown which performed below expectations explained that he was instructed to ride the mare back and when he attempted to improve from the 600 metres it failed to respond to his riding. Bulent Muhcu added that he was of the view the solid early pace did not suit the mare.

GENERAL

Adjourned Inquiry – Tasmanian Turf Club Meeting 19 November 2014

Bill Ryan pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 175(k) negligence in that he failed to have Great White on course in time to compete in Race 8 at the Tasmanian Turf Club meeting on Wednesday 19November 2014 resulting in the horse having to be declared a late scratching. Mr Ryan was subsequently fined $200 with $100 wholly suspended for 12 months in that he not re-offend under this rule during that time. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Ryan’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence and his record in relation to this rule.
