AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ANGUS H. MACAULAY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS THE 20122013 PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAR.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the significant contributions that Angus H. Macaulay has made to the legal profession in the Palmetto State as the 20122013 president of the South Carolina Bar; and

Whereas, a native of Richmond, Virginia, he earned a bachelor’s in English in 1986from Sewanee: University of the Southand a juris doctoratein 1990 from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, Mr. Macaulay was honoredin recognition of fourteen years of practicing lawby the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association with its Compleat Lawyer Silver Award in 2003, which recognizes attorneys for “competence, ethics, and integrity”;and

Whereas, a certified specialist in employment and labor law by the South Carolina Supreme Court, he represents management in employment litigation matters and provides practical advice to employers on ways to minimize litigation risks and comply with federal and state employment laws; and

Whereas, Mr. Macaulay also represents corporate clients in civil litigation in state and federal courts, insurers in bad faith and breach of contract actions, lending institutions against claims of civil RICO and breach of contract, and corporate clients in shareholder “squeezeout” and unfair trade practice actions; and

Whereas, he has been admitted to the South Carolina Bar; the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit; and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina; and he is a certified mediator; and

Whereas, Mr. Macaulay has served the members of his profession through the South Carolina Bar as the treasurer from 2010 to 2011, on the Board of Governors from 2000 to 2002, and from 2007 to the present, and he also served as president of the Young Lawyers Division from 1999 to 2000, as a member of the House of Delegates since 2000, and as the director of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, Inc., from 1995 to 1998 and again from 2011 to 2013; and

Whereas, with sincere dedication to his community, he served as the chair of the board of directors of the South Carolina Cancer Center in 1999, treasurer of the South Carolina State Library Foundation from 2005 to 2008, and a member of the South Columbia Development Corporation from 1993 to 2001; and

Whereas, he was honored to be listed among the Best Lawyers in America in Employment Law for individuals and formanagement,and in Litigation for Labor and Employment in 2013. He was recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers for Employment Litigation in 2009; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is profoundly grateful for the meaningful impact that Angus Macaulay has had and continues to have on the legal profession in our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize and honorAngus H. Macaulay for his outstanding and dedicated service as the 20122013 president of the South Carolina Bar.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided toAngus H. Macaulay.
