2012 MYBSA FALL BALL RULES

-Fall Ball is instructional baseball and the emphasis is on teaching and improvement, not competition.

-Season starts on September 16, with games/practices planned on SUNDAYS ONLY on Sept 16, 23, 30 and Oct 14, 21. No games/practices are planned for Oct 6 due to fall break and MSU Homecoming weekend.

-Fall Ball shirts (with numbers on back) will be delivered for Week 2 wear. Please come in practice apparel or summer uniform for Week 1 games. Wear your summer ball MLB hat. All teams will have the same color shirts – Racer League navy with gold letters; Breds League gold with navy letters.

-One umpire will be assigned to both Racer and Breds league games. Umpire calls are to be respected and they will be positioned behind the mound on both fields.

-Coaches are allowed and encouraged on the field for defensive instruction for their team after a mistake is made (physical or mental).

-All players are encouraged to participate in both the games and practices in an effort to improve skill and game knowledge.

-Teams can borrow a “similar talent” player if enough are not present for any given Sunday’s game.

Racer League (6-8 yo)

  1. This is instructional baseball. Scores and standings are not kept this fall.
  2. Game time length 1 hour 20 minutes. Game will stop at that time whether the inning has been completed or not.
  3. Entire lineup bats each inning, regardless of out total. For instructional purposes situations will be played 1-2-3 outs (clear bases), then 1-2-3 outs again (clear bases), until entire lineup bats that inning
  4. Baserunners will stop and time called by the umpire when ball is controlled by defense in the pitcher’s circle
  5. Baserunners do not advance on overthrows (this is designed to encourage defensive attempts/plays)
  6. Teams should have 10 fielders (4 outfielders) when enough players are present, or borrow a player.

Breds League (8-10 yo)

  1. Game time length will be 1 hour 30 minutes. Game will stop at that time whether the inning has been completed or not.
  2. Entire lineup bats each inning, regardless of out total. For instructional purposes situations will be played 1-2-3 outs (clear bases), then 1-2-3 outs again (clear bases), until entire lineup bats that inning
  3. No base stealing and players may only leave the base after the ball has crossed the plate on a pitch.
  4. Teams should have 9 fielders when enough players are present, or borrow a player.

This is a new venture and we reserve the right to “tweak” rules as the fall progresses, based on consensus from coaches in conjunction with MYBSA Fall Ball officials.
