A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND THE W. WYMAN KING ACADEMY “LADY KNIGHTS” SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DENISE ROWE ON WINNING THE 2004 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE OUTSCORING THEIR COMPETITORS WITH A TOTAL SCORE OF 659 IN FIVE CONSECUTIVE GAMES.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team affords young people the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing their athletic talents; and

Whereas, to become a champion in softball, all the members of the team and the coaching staff must possess outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, utilizing their time, energy, and superior athletic talent to the fullest extent, Head Coach Denise Rowe and Assistant Coach Lisa Dorn, with the help of Candi Rodgers and Debbie Davis Phillips, and the girls’ softball team of W. Wyman King Academy worked together to make it to the big dance; and

Whereas, during the State Championship Tournament on May 7 and 8, 2004, the Lady Knights picked off their opponents one by one, including two victories on Friday in a blowout over Patrick Henry by a score of 150 and an impressive win over Clarendon Hall by a score of 111 and two victories Saturday over Jefferson Davis by a score of 201 and over Clarendon Hall again by a score of 76; and

Whereas, in a rematch with Jefferson Davis, W. Wyman King Academy emerged victorious to capture the championship title with a final score of 121; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are: Lindsey Hollis, Kori Liner, Libby Shealy, Brittany Mappus, Joni Watkins, Haleigh Rogers, Paige Nichols, Brittany Lybrand, Christy Richardson, Hollis Harmon, and Lauren Coleman; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate this amazing group of young women on winning this truly deserved championship and wish each of them much success in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and commend the W. Wyman King Academy “Lady Knights” Softball Team and Head Coach Denise Rowe on winning the 2004 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class A State Championship Title outscoring their competitors with a total score of 659 in five consecutive games.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the W. Wyman King Academy Girls Softball Team and Head Coach Denise Rowe.
