A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ANDREWS HIGH SCHOOL “YELLOW JACKETS” VARSITY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR WINNING SEASON AND BECOMING THE RUNNERUP IN THE STATE AA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Whereas, the Andrews High School “Yellow Jackets” Girls’ Basketball Team capped off a winning season on March 6, 2004, with the State AA Championship against the Columbia High School “Capitals” Girls’ Basketball Team; and

Whereas, the Yellow Jackets worked hard all season and finished with an impressive record of 20 wins and just 7 losses; and

Whereas, the 2003 winning season was a product of the hard work and determination of the coaches and team members; and

Whereas, Coach Bethany Giles and team members Janna White, Bridget Williams, Cherell Green, Latrice McCrea, Tomay Johnson, Shaniqua Grant, Rachel Hannah, Kristen Thornton, Kayla Scott, Latonya Warren, and Claudia Wilson worked together to achieve a successful season, victory in the playoffs, and runnerup status in the State Championship game; and

Whereas, Andrews dominated the boards in the first half of the State Championship game and a wellprepared Andrews defense caused their opponents to struggle to get their offense going against the pressure of the Yellow Jackets; and

Whereas, the Columbia team capitalized on a secondhalf run to take home the win but the Andrews team should be commended and remembered for its valiant efforts throughout the exciting game. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are proud to recognize and honor the Andrews High School “Yellow Jackets” Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team on their winning season and becoming the runnerup in the State AA Championship game.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Bethany Giles.
