A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MR. GEORGE A. FULMER OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THE REMARKABLE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDRED SECOND BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are delighted to learn that Mr. George Alpheus Fulmer will be celebrating his 102nd birthday on February 4, 2002; and

Whereas, birthdays are joyful occasions to be shared with one’s family and friends, and the members of the General Assembly are honored to recognize this very special day on which George Fulmer will celebrate the one hundred two years of his life; and

Whereas, Mr. George Fulmer was born on February 4, 1900, entering the world just as America was entering the Twentieth Century, and as the country has witnessed incredible technological and social changes, George Fulmer has been there to see it all; and

Whereas, George worked for the South Carolina State Hospital from 1924 to 1929 at which time he then joined the Columbia City Police Department where he served the citizens of Columbia until his retirement from the department’s investigative unit in 1966; Mr. Fulmer has been honored as the oldest living retired member of the Columbia Police Department; and

Whereas, George Fulmer has been a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church since 1927 and is currently an honorary life member of Ebenezer’s Church Council; and

Whereas, George Fulmer was married to his beloved wife, Pearl Price Fulmer, on January 9, 1924, and they worked together to raise four wonderful children who have blessed George and Pearl with twelve grandchildren, twentynine great grandchildren, and twelve greatgreat grandchildren; and

Whereas, George Fulmer’s life is a credit to hard work, devotion to family, and service to others, and the admiration held for Mr. Fulmer by those that know him is due not only to his reaching the age of one hundred two, but also to his consummate strength compassion during all those wonderful years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to recognize Mr. George A. Fulmer of Columbia, South Carolina, on the remarkable occasion of his one hundred second birthday and wish him many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. George A. Fulmer of Columbia, South Carolina.
