1St Game of the New Season Home to Sanford St Martin

Horspath III v Bletchley Town II Cherwell League Div 6, 11/6/11

Win the toss win the match

Bletchley were out done by the toss this week.

Bletchley arrived with a slightly weakened side to face Horspath III.

We were greeted with a damp wicket (2nd time in two years) the toss was most important but unfortunately I called wrong and Horspath were happy to invite us to bat.

Batting was difficult Dave Shepherd and Tom Woodwards struggled in the early overs to score but the odd bad ball was put away.

After 8 overs we were 25 for nought and just needed a solid foundation from the openers to allow us to post a decent score.

Younis the opening bowler then had Dave Shepherd caught by Eason for 17

The other opener Smith struck three overs later and had Michael Houpe batting at three caught for three we were 39-2.

Ben Talbot joined Tom Woodwards and having hit three successive boundaries he looked in good nick.

Ben’s flaw is to play across the line and it was his undoing being caught off Smith by Cooke.

Abs was next in and realising the situation we were in took 10 overs to score a run, but he had a cunning plan upping the rate with 4 consecutive boundaries and top scoring with 53 he was supported by Ben Shepherd 17 and Chris Weissang on debut with 10.

Bletchley scored a creditable 148 considering the conditions.

And then the sun came out!!!!

Weissang and Kane opened the bowling and a couple of early wickets gave a little hope, Weissang having Belcher caught for 18 off a poor delivery by Jack Lintwaite, Kane having Cookie caught behind by Abs for 3 and Weissang with a caught and bowled, O’Connor for 9.

But the track was drying fast and with plenty of time and a little sensible batting Horspath were in control, Eason and Holmes were at the crease Eason scored 36 before being bowled by Weissang, Holmes knew the score and remained unbeaten on 53 by the end of the game, he was supported by Henderson (20) but he was bowled by Jack Lintwaite another 15 year old which secured us another point.

So an unsatisfactory result that was determined by the weather.

We move on next week
