Purpose

The purpose of this qualification is to recognise the skills and knowledge of customary fishers, using practices that enhance the sustainable management of fishing. Holders of this qualification will be able to demonstrate a range of basic skills and knowledge in customary fishing techniques and practices, specific to species of kaimoana, kairoto or kaiawa.

This qualification also allows for some flexibility to recognise skills the trainee may have in other seafood, maritime or Māori related areas.

This qualification provides a pathway to the following qualifications:

  • National Certificate in Seafood Māori (Customary Fishing Management) (Level4) [Ref:1065].
  • National Certificate in Seafood (Level 4) with optional strands in Aquaculture, and Processing [Ref: 0854].

Requirements for Award of Qualification

This qualification will be awarded to people who have met the requirements of Elective 1 and Elective 2.
