Description: This introductory course provides information about mechanical and materials engineering to the entering student. In addition, the importance of verbal and written communication skills and economic considerations in engineering are stressed. A fundamental design philosophy using a hands-on approach will be outlined, which includes such topics as safety, ethics, product liability and teamwork.

Requirements: All reports, tables, and presentations are to be completed using a word processor (Word or similar), a spreadsheet program (Excel or similar) and Powerpoint, respectively. All of these software packages are available in Rm. 152 RC to all students. A 50% penalty will be assessed for the assignment if the appropriate tools are not used. Late assignments will not be accepted. Students are expected to attend all lectures. If absent, it is the student’s responsibility to catch up the material covered. No late in-class homeworks will be allowed except in case of verifiable emergency.
