According to more than a century of Identical Twin studies, most of the ‘Big 5’ personality traits are approx. between 40-50% due to heredity [or hardware] (Dun & Hammer, 2010, 57). Other ‘nature vs. nurture’ studies generally concur; but all too often , it is then presumed “that most differences in human behavior are [thus] a result of the environment” [or www] (Ashford, LeCroy, & Lortie, 2010, 64). This is not true, as what they didn't factor into the equation was- as most multi-child mothers could tell them- that souls [software] vary, not just physical characteristics. HD (science of souls) doesn't, as far as I know, refute or take away from the approx. 40-50% of human behavior attributed to genetics (hardware). HD's [software] current gurus, however, certainly argue that 'the environment' or "mind" (social learning) is usually- if not typically- in conflict with the soul. Does it not follow that one should conclude that Human Beings' Behavior is approx. ‘45’% genetic, physical trait characteristics, from 'the great genetic lottery'; whereas the ‘other half’ is, or has been, something of a battleground between individual souls (a la Rousseau/’anarchists’) and socio-economic domestication and [post-birth] parental expectations (a la oligarchs and other ‘statists')? One may presume that this (zero sum gain) tug of war between Rousseau-esque individuality [soul/self] on one side and ultra-state-conformity ['mind'/”not-self”] on the other has had its share of shifts over the ages. With Hunter-gathers, one might guess 35%-20%, in favor of Rousseau's 'noble savage' (soul). With the greater economic stress and poor nutrition associated with the early post-Neolithic revolution, the latter would presumably be gaining share… though people, being people, would (and always will) resist it. Perhaps in pre-Rousseau 1600s Europe it could've been 35-20 in favor of social environment. I don't really know. But in latter 20thc urban USA, it would seem to have been about +30% indiv. soul factor, to -25% social conformity (and perhaps 28%-27% in the ‘mid-20thc’). In some future, perfect, or peaceful/stable/sustainable world it might be sth. like 45-45-10 (phys. traits-soul traits-environment).
