Program
Welcome to the Middle School portion of our concert! To begin, let’s kick off our shoes and dance with Kyle Miller as he solos in “Walking Basses” by Merle Isaac.

Our 6th Graders have done wonderful work this year. You should be very proud of their accomplishments. We’d like to especially acknowledge the leadership of Melissa Ulrich as she’s run 6th Grade sectionals as the 6th Grade Concert Master throughout the year. Please show her your appreciation!
The next pieces of music will be performed by our 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra. Please sit back and imagine that you are in an 18th Century dance hall as we perform two dances from this Bach Suite for String Orchestra.

That was Rosin Eating Zombies. I hope you weren’t too frightened by the ghoulish sights and sounds of our orchestra!
It’s time to bid farewell to our 8th Graders. Each of them has made a significant impact on our orchestras this year. They’ll be missed by all of us, but I know each will make their own special mark on the High School. Please welcome AdeolaAdeniyi, Taylor Banks, Paulina Estrada, Jackie Friedlander, Michael Furjanic, and Carter Ulrich as they perform two pieces that they’ve prepared.

Dell Zarkin and Jack Ferguson were a part of the 8th Grade General Music Elective this year. They’ve joined forces with some of our orchestra students to do a bit of improvisation on a theme by Dell. The improvisation begins with Dell’s introduction and statement of the thematic phrase. Each instrument will then perform a short improvised solo (made up on the spot but based on the phrase), finishing with a whole group restatement of the phrase with Dell taking us out. Please welcome them as they extemporize for us.

We finish our portion of the concert with three whole orchestra numbers, including the massive 1812 Overture (three pages of music!). Please take a moment to acknowledge our Concert Master this evening, Jackie Friedlander. Her leadership has been crucial in ensuring the success of the entire orchestra.
We hope you’ve enjoyed the concert. Please take advantage of the opportunity to purchase an STMS Orchestra shirt for $8 on the way out, especially if you are a parent of a 2014-15 6th Grader coming up from Thomas Holtzman. Have a safe journey home and thank you for your support.
