2. Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and AgricultureSaturday volunteer days on the farm where you learn sustainable farming practices.

3. Bread for the City Volunteer at the Free fresh fruit market, or Wednesdays at City Orchard, or join the Crop Mop in the spring to harvest apples, Asian pears, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries.

4. Capital Area Food Bank Help sort and pack trucks with donated food.

5. Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington DC Check out the calendar for one-time volunteer opportunities - St. Maria’s Meals, SHARE food network, Shelter clean up and more.

6. City Blossoms Create green spaces in urban neighborhoods in DC. Mostly spring, summer and fall.

7. Common Good City Farm

Urban agriculture- help provide healthy vegetables to low-income families. Their mission is to grow food, educate, and help low-income DC community members meet their healthy food needs.

8. DC Central Kitchen Help prepare delicious meals which are distribute to homeless shelters, transitional homes, and nonprofit organizations or volunteer in their nutrition lab which caters for DC Public Schools.

9. Habitat for Humanity DCCertain Saturdays every month are reserved for individual volunteers but they do require you to register with Habitat and check the calendar for when those dates pop up.

10. Jewish Community CenterThe Washington DC JCC is a great resource for volunteer activities in the city. Check out their year-round opportunities, days of service, individual volunteer match or join the Behrend builders in building or renovating low-income homes.

11. Little Falls Watershed AllianceOffers year round outdoor events- plant flowers in a meadow in Norwood Park, remove vines and weeds in Little Falls park, clean the Creek!

12. Miriam’s Kitchen- Not just a kitchen! Opportunities also include leading art projects, distributing toiletries, giving haircuts, and of course preparing and serving meals.

13. One BrickCheck out the calendar to find single events any day of the week. Includes some of the bigger non-profits but also smaller ones- answer letters from prisoners, go bowling with children with disabilities, send books to prisoners, help with fundraising auctions, package safe sex kits and more.

14. Suits for Change Become a stylist for women in need of professional clothing for interviews or sort through donated clothing any Saturday of the month. The stylist gig requires a small regular commitment.

15. We are Family A senior citizen outreach network where volunteers visit with seniors, delivery groceries, provide transportation. The volunteer coordinator will help you find an opportunity that interests you.
