Messagefromthe Chief Executive Officer

This is an exciting time for our Charity Team as well as a busy time.

Like many of our voluntary and community sector colleagues we are experiencing a significant increase in the need for our services not just in the volume of people but also in the complexity of their issues.

As a local Age UK covering the Horsham District area we want to be famous for:

  • Being the first point of contact for older people;
  • Delivering services that both meet needs and are person centred
  • Tackling loneliness.

Underpinning all of this we want to be famous for being the employer of choice locally. Our vision is that together with communities and older people we want to create a district in which everyone can love later life.

Theserviceinvolvesfirstpointofcontactforolderpeople,assessmentandmeetingneeds,workingin:

  • Benefitsadvice and supportwithapplications;
  • Social andpersonalneeds;
  • Housing options;
  • Care andhealth
  • Information, advice and practical support for older people who live alone

and have recently been in hospital

  • Information, advice and support for relatives and carers of older people who

are in or have recently been in hospital.

The latter two areas are WestSussexCountyCouncilfundedservices,HomefromHospitalandRelativeSupportService,providingfirstpointofcontact,assessmentandmeetingneedsfor olderpeople,particularlyon discharge from hospital. We are also supported financially by Hyde Community Trust and Horsham District Council.

We are looking for a TeamLeader(19 hours per week)whowillberesponsibleforthequality,competencyandcapacitymanagementoftheteamandwillspend25% oftheirtime ondirectcasework.Theteamis supportedby afurtherthreeofficers forthe teamworking64 hours per week.

The team has been in place since February 2017 and the previous Team Leader has returned to a post with colleagues in Age UK Surrey. The officer working on our Home from Hospital service is being recruited at the same time as this post.

We are in the process of preparing for application for the Age UK Advice Quality Standard

We have increasedandenhancedourtriage,assessmentandsupportforolderpeoplewiththeappointmentofthe team,alongsideare-organisationofourAdministrativeSupportteam,tomakesurewemaximisetheopportunitiesfor olderpeople atthe“FrontDoor”of our services.
