I took the Myers-Briggs Personality Test and came up with the results of ISFP, as illustrated in the table below.

This means that I am what is know as an ISFP, or the ‘Introverted Feeling Type’.

  • Introversion – The source of my mental energy comes from my inner world of thoughts, interests, ideas, and imagination.
  • Sensing – The sensing side of my mind notices the sights, sounds, smells and all the sensory details of the present. I categorize, organize, record and store the specifics from the here and now. I deal with "what is", not “what was” or “what could be.” My memory & recollections provide specific details from past events. This is how I perceive a situation and understand others and the world around me.
  • Feeling –The feeling side of my mind forms conclusions in an attached and somewhat global manner; based on likes/dislikes, affect on others, and human and aesthetic values. When it comes to forming judgments and making choices, I am more subjective rather than logical.
  • Perceiving - I take the outside world as it comes. I’madaptable, flexible, open-ended and receptive to new opportunities and changing game plans.

I found the description of an ISFP personality type inline with my own. I associated closely with most of the descriptive characteristics, when each question was broken down and explained. For example Poirier describes that ISFP are“introverted feeling personality types and are usually gentle and kind, they are intense and passionate about their values and deeply held beliefs,…They are sensitive to others' pain, restlessness or general discomfort and strive to find happiness, balance and wholeness for themselves in order to help others find joy, satisfaction and plenitude. They are deeply empathetic (Poirier).”

ISFPs act on the belief that every person is unique and that social norms are to be respected. I use this while in a leadership role where I am working with a very diverse team, where feelings can get hurt and emotions may run high, by being compassionate and understanding. Despite my discreet manner,I will raise issue with inauthenticity anddishonesty in a team environment.

ISFP also are tolerant and open-minded. Poirier describes ISFP type peopleto “… live for the understanding of others and feel deeply grateful when someone takes the time to get to know them personally.” As leaders, ISFP’s listening skills, insightfulness, and a genuine concern for others, gains great respect and inspire others to be themselves (Poirier).
