Dear Wright Family,

Welcome to a new school year. Our school year is off to a good start! The success of your child is greatly increased when we work together as a partners. We need your assistance to help your child do well. Getting your child to school every day on time is the best way to ensure your child will make adequate yearly progress. Spending time at school as a volunteer and attending events demonstrates that education has importance. We hope you will spend time with us as a volunteer or PTO member.

Keeping the lines of communication is important. The Dolphin Dialogue is one way we communicate events and information. You can also gain information by visiting us on the school website and Facebook page. Another form of communication is the School District iOCSD app that is available on the Okaloosa County School District Website at

Did you know?

We achieved a school grade of B from the Florida Department of Education. Wright Elementary was one percentage point from achieving an A.

We participate each year in the Great American SpellCheck School Fundraiser. The Great American SpellCheck is a benefit of enrollment in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program.

It's a fund-raiser that: 1) makes sure 100% of the money raised benefits our school 2) involves no students knocking on the doors of strangers 3) is rooted in academics. If each child can obtain a pledge of $10, we can raise $6,000 for our school. We will use the funds to refresh our cafeteria. Your student will bring home a letter explaining all the details and dates, a pledge sheet to start getting family and friends to pledge money for each word that they spell correctly in the Classroom Spelling Bee.

Habit of the Month- The habit for September is Begin with the End in Mind (Have a Plan)

  • I plan ahead and set my goals
  • I do things that are meaningful and make a difference

FREE/REDUCED LUNCH: Any student on free or reduced lunch last year must reapply at the beginning of each school year. The parent can fill out a new application (one per family regardless of the school where your child/children attend) on the internet at (Spanish version also on-line) or we have a few applications in the office. If your child was on free or reduced lunch last year, that status will remain until mid- September. If you have any questions, please contact Gena Thrasher at 833-3580, extension 221.

ImportantNote: It is expected that all students know their lunch numbers. Please help your student memorize his/her lunch number. Thank you!

TIPS from TITLE I:
The Title I Team welcomes you to a new school year. Many of our students receive Title I supportive services in either Reading, Math or both. You will be getting a letter from a Title I teacher explaining the program if your child receives this service. Look for a Title I Parent Night in the next month to further explain Title I.
Here’s a quick tip on how to help your child at home:
Hopefully, your child is reading at home every day. When kids are reading, we often jump in to make corrections very quickly.
Try waiting to see if they correct themselves. You will be surprised at the number of times that they make changes without your help, and it will give them more confidence in their ability as a reader.
